Getting ready to take the plunge...

Hi everybody...
Thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself, been lurking around here for a bit and have read pretty much every single article and review on the main site, and and on the verge of making my first REAL sword purchases in the next couple months or so.
I've been a sword enthusiast since I was a kid, and got introduced to AD&D back in 1982 at age 11. I used to read SFI quite a lot a few years ago, when I was considering getting into collecting for the first time, but at that time the price of entry was a bit high so I never actually did it. Now, at age 40, I've started going to gaming/sci-fi cons again for the first time in many, many years (will be at my 2nd DragonCon this year), and have discovered an interest in costuming, especially historical medieval and renaissance. This got me to looking at swords again, and the quick discovery of this site, and the wonderful realization that I can actually afford this stuff now!
My current plans include 3 swords, one from each of the primary periods I am interested in. First will be the MRL Munich Cut & Thrust, for my Witch Hunter costume for the con season this year, inspired mostly by the recent Solomon Kane film. I love the look of this sword, heavier than a rapier and good for a nice chop as well as the old stabby-stabby
Next up will be the Classic Medieval, I love the look of the arming sword, and something about that style of crossguard really clicks with me... and you can't beat the price.
To fill my Dark Ages slot, I plan to get the Leuterit Viking Sword... this was the hardest decision, as there are a number of really nice looking vikings around my price point, but this one had the aesthetics and shape I like without going for an $800+ A&A or Albion.
Eventually, if finances allow it, I would like to advance to some of the Valiant Armory Signature series, most notably the Maletesta and the Hedemark, both are such beautiful swords... but I want to start off slowly and a bit lower-budget for now
Anyway, just wanted to say hello, love this place... I feel like I am able to make really educated and informed decisions on my sword purchases, and want to thank everyone who has written the reviews and opinions and general ramblings around here that have been so helpful!
Oh, I'm also a freelance hobbyist photographer, mostly for local bands in Charlotte NC, but I also have pics from last year's DragonCon up on my FB page, if anyone is interested MetalWarlokk Photography on FB
Keep on swording!
Scott
