Hello all I knew to this site and most likely will be here for a bit. This site is fantastic and has so much information very impress. I spent a lot of time on the net reading until I found this site; this has more than the rest by far. I live up in the frozen north Willow River, BC Canada and have a cabin in the Rockies in a very remote place Penny, BC where I grew up. Saying all this I a big outdoor person and like hunting sometime also. I bought a few "wall hangers" in the past nothing very practical but now I'm looking for a good usable sword to carry with me on my adventures. I have run in to a few grizzlies and black bear normally I have a rifle but a backup plan for when that one does not work will be nice. Looking for some feedback on these two: I like this first one Kate "Wind" www.chenessinc.com/kaze.htm But I’m thinking of holding out for this custom order one. sbg-sword-store.sword-buyers-gui ... atana.html Well one is 9260 spring steel the other is T10 tool steel. Any feedback would be good. Cheers Benny

Welcome to the forums. Personally, I wouldn't take a sword to a bear fight, but then, I'd rather just avoid them all together. Anyway, it's nice to meet you!

Hey Benny, welcome to the forum. My brothers name is Ben too. This is a fun, helpful place and I think that you'll like it here.
I have a Kaze and I love it. It came without many defects, but there are some things about it that bug me. Poor quality seppa, okay but not great ito, the ito doesn't alternate correctly and the kissaki is counter-polished kind of rough. That all being said it came with the best overall fit in the scabbard of any other sword I own, has a tough and sharp blade, and has a gorgeous hamon. This model is Differentially Hardened and is not as tough as Cheness' Through Hardened blades, but is tough in its own right. It is fairly blade-heavy, but as long as you aren't looking to do extensive trick-type cutting it's good.
The SBG Custom katana looks great as well. i have never had one, but I'd like to get one eventually.
