I need a few extra pairs of eyes who have a deeper knowledge of history than I. I am including a few photographs I took of it. It was found on the West side of Lake Jackson, Tallahassee, Fl. Based on the history of this area we are thinking Spanish not so much Union or Confederate. Free Mason or Knights of Columbus? What is your opinion? How do I go about getting it appraised? How do I get it repaired? Thank You for any and all help you can provide.

It looks fraternal to me, meaning you are looking at like Freemasons or Knights of Columbus. Swords of this style were generally given in the early 1900's, but some organizations still use them today. You could get it appraised, but I think you will be disappointed. It is in VERY rough condition for this kind of sword. I could be wrong, but that is my guess. Unless you can link this to a particular person or place, it is unlikely to be worth a lot.
Any family in any organizations like that?

Found it laying half burried under a tree outside an Old Church close to the Florida Georgia State Line. It has been on our mantle for a year now and someone asked what type of sword? I found I had to reply I had no idea.

My vote is the same although there don't appear to be any recognizable Mason symbols showing. Same thoughts with the $ value = not much. What I would do is go back to the exact location with a metal detector and see if you can find the pommel or other missing parts.

The straight, thin and light blade together with a fairly short single-handed grip and short cross with a lot of ornament all come together to suggest either a presentation sword of some sort or a fraternal sword. The style has been used for a long time, there's still people making these although they're almost always wall-hangers now. Not that the old ones were much better, mind you! If you could clean up the blade a little (check with an expert first if you're interested in dollar value) there might be engravings. I agree with S. Price as well, go back and see if you can find the pommel and parts...
