My first sword

Well, as the title says, I just received my first sword. Ever. Unless you count the silly little plastic saber I had as a kid
Anyway, I've always been fascinated by swords, but it wasn't until I took up my religion (which I'm sure you'll be able to guess the name of here in a second) that I had a real reason to acquire one. Due to the nature of my religion, being able to pray with my own sword means a lot. Hence me buying a sword.
The sword I got was from Darksword Armory, and its the Oslo viking sword. While this might be a bit out there for a first sword, I reasoned that no matter what the sword was going to be highly treasured by me and whoever I pass it on to, so even if it was just a bad sword or was overpriced for a first time sword it wasn't going to matter just because of what it is. I absolutely love the look of the sword and everything about it (both from its looks straight down to what its capable of. DSA's reputation for tough swords especially took my interest) fit my personality and really what I'd want out of a sword if I ever found myself needing one. And the sword itself arrived today, and its just astounding. It came with brown leather for the grip and the scabbard, which was a pleasant surprise because I wasn't too keen on the black you see in virtually every photo of it. Litterally everything about the sword goes above and beyond my expectations.
But that it isn't what I made this topic for. What I mainly want to ask here is just a couple of questions that I can't seem to find any clear answers on (without sitting here for countless hours that is) the answers to which will set me up for the rest of my sword collecting life. (as this is the first of many, I can already say)
So, first question is, what would be the best oil for the sword? I know of mineral oil and WD-40 for quick stuff (vaseline or whatever for long-term storage) but I'd just like a solid answer. Connected to that, second question, what kind of cloth does everyone use to clean your swords with? I have this small cloth for cleaning my glasses with (that I never use. ever) and that seems to work just great but as I said its god awfully small (no bigger than a CD) and its not particularly thick either (even for that type of cloth) and as such I cut through it just wiping the blade.
Last question is totally unrelated to my sword and is more related to a sort of dream sword. I personally like katana's, not as much as spatha's naturally, but they're close up there. Now, what I cooked up in my head was a katana that was basically like a Norseman's version of it. Like, what would happen if a Norseman went to Japan and made/had made a katana that fit the norse style of weaponry. And what I envisioned my head was a katana that had a straighter blade (however not perfectly straight either), a tsuba (thats the term for the guard on katana's right?) that is shaped like this and with a grip that is a mix of the usual leather and solid metal (with norse themed knot-work done wherever possible) and at the very end a small pommel-like cap, for lack of a better term, shaped as Mjolnir to tie it together. Basically creating a viking katana.
My question is simply how possible such a sword would be to make. (and spare me anything about cost, as presuming this sword was possible and I were to go get it made, cost wouldn't even be an issue to me)
But those are my questions and I'll go ahead and put up some pics of my sword here:
