I bought the CS 1796 Lt. Cav. sabre from KoA a few months ago, cut a cardboard box, then noticed the blade leaning about 1cm. or 3/8" to the left when viewed from the top-back-spine. At first I thought I`d damaged the blade with one slash to a cardboard box.
A few moments ago I read this post: sbgswordforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=8084
That was a Weaponedge 1796 he reviewed. And my CS has almost the same thing. I`ve often wondered about the possible connection btwn. CS and Weaponedge. The "Klingenthal" inscriptions on the CS "1830" (sic) "Napoleon" sabre and the Weaponedge AN XI Cav. Legere is another detail that makes me go "Hmm...". Mind you, they MIGHT just be using the same template for the engraver.
So now I`m somewhat relieved that I may not have damaged my 1796, but mildly annoyed that I was sold a bent blade. It IS just a few mm. however, but even so... Anyone else have a "left leaning" sabre?
I don`t know if I should be all that concerned about it, but while dry handling it, certain manoeuvres don`t produce that pleasant "tachi-kaze", or wind hiss, so I know the edge alignment is off, but is it me, or the blade? I have to adjust my wrist angle somewhat when doing backhand slashes, or it makes a dull whoosh. Forehand slashes almost always sound good.
All this being said, I still haven`t sharpened my Weaponedge AN XI Lt. Cav. sabre. Since CS claims to use 1055, and WE 1050, perhaps it`s not that big a difference. True, they`re manufactured to diff. quality ctrl. stds. but I hope it can cut cardboard and water bottles. Not that I will cut those substances with it, I`d just like to have it sharpened and theoretically ready for a "real" opponent.
