About three weeks ago I was sitting in my Florida Room working on a cheap can of beer when a bolt of inspiration hit me; "I want a sword". Understanding that I had actually wanted one since I was about fourteen.
I get me up, and go inside to my computer; "Where to start." I don't have any idea.
"Well, google 'Sword Makers', have to be something there."
Looking for something which said something like; " I make swords in the United States".
Humm, Guess what? "There ain't no animal like that on my screen."
BUT! I did see in bold letters; "SWORD MANUFACTURERS GUIDE". Paydirt
I punched the blue letters, and BAM! "Sword Stuff.
In two minutes I am swamped with info the likes of which was as alien to me as the computer inself.
I randomly pick something, and punch button, phrase, or whatever is was. I am now learning about swords from folks who seem to know what I wanted to know about. They seem to care that I know it too.
Wondering thru this maze for about three days I start retaining facts:
... carbon or spring steel
... forged
... Kult of Athena inspects everything before shipping
... what to look for when buying a first sword.
I am now proudly ready to start looking for "My Sword".
Using the manufacturers listed on the left side I quickly understand that I "need' a Viking type.
This came from knowing that my family may have arrived on these shores in the Mayflower, but my wifes forfathers may have gotten here on a longship.
Two days of looking, and I order from Kult of Athena a "Godfred Viking" by Hanwei Forge.
I am tickled purple with my new blade, but as pillageing is no longer in vogue I will have to amend the part about
"What do you intend to do with it?"
Thank all the folks to do with SMG and SBG. You will here from me again.
" Lets see, this second sword has got to be a two hander.
