I am just starting out in sword collecting and purchased 5 Katanas based on personal preference and reviews that I found on here.
Cutters- Cheness 9260 Tenchi
Wall Hangers - Hanwei Golden Oriole Hanweil Shinto Hanwei Tea Culture
Ordered - Hanwei Bamboo Mat w/sharpening option
Although I do not have any mid-level katanas (any good recommendations?), I am happy with my choices for a little less than $1800.
What say you?

LOL.... nice starter collection for sure... although I'd say your whole collection is mid-level katana... ezcept the Cheness. Also I thought it funny that your best swords are kabeled as wall-hangers, any one of them will cut and cut well...
I reccomend picking up a Ronin Dojo Pro to cut with also... and try out a Euro.... any from Valiant Armoury maybe... just to see what you like...
My collection used to be mostly kats... now mostly euro. Sucks to have 20+ 500 kats and suddenly realize your in love with the longsword...
Nice job on beginning your collection.

Good stuff. Like Marc said all your kats are built cutters but understand if you want to thrash on a less expensive one. Also agree to check out a Euro or two and see if they suit you.

Darkswords have been noted to be heavy and fairly blunt in the past. However, they're solid and good swords, so if you like their looks and you're willing to build your strength up a little handling them, go for it.
Angus Trim swords will cost you more, but have far more serviceability in them... they aren't necessarily 'fantasy' pieces though. The VA Signatures are very nice and cheaper than the ATrims, plus they come with a full scabbard and belt kit, which is a great deal in itself. Hard to get your hands on 'em though!
