I am really looking to get a Ko-Katana for looks, home defense, and something a ninja might carry lol. Can anyone recommend some ko-kats that you absolutely love?
I have been looking at the Kaze Ko-Katana by Cheness which gives me a lighter short sword with Bo-Hi, DH, and real hamon. One drawback is the cotton ito although I like the color Brown.
I also have been looking at the Ronin Dojo Pro Ko Katana which has the awesome black on black handle although it is a heavier sword with no hamon, bo-hi, or DH. I do not own a RoninKatana and I already own a Cheness which is a great sword as advertised with plain fittings.
Any others to recommend or do I already have the best two?

beside these ones, maybe you think about getting a custom ko kat from sinosword/huawei. I'm planing this for my next purchase. With this option you can really get what you want as long as you are specific enough. A sionsword custom ko kat will be around 200-300$, depending on the polish and some furniture you want. This would be my decision

Hey, Doctor; if the new Ronin Ko-kat is anything like their katanas, you can't go wrong with it. I've never heard anyone having problems with theirs. But, there's a few other options to consider. First is the cheapest: Hanwei Tactical Wakizashi. Sold as a wakizashi, but taking into account the long handle, it could very well be considered a ko-kat. Cons for you would include the very non-traditional styling and that's about it. Dynasty Forge Musha Ko-Katana. Currently on back order, but a really nice looking piece nonetheless and the few issues DF has had in the past (mainly cheap tsuka wood that would often crack when passing through several climate zones), I've heard have been corrected; I could be wrong about that, though. Still, the Musha class is quite nice and, according to their descriptions, will forgive a less-than-perfect technique. 3rd & 4th you'll actually have to look up yourself, unfortunately, because SwordnArmory links always screw up. Go to SwordnArmory.com and search "Nisshoku". There are two different version available, one for 200$ and the other for 330$; I can't really tell the difference, so I suggest e-mailing SwordnArmory and asking them. You'll probably be satisfied with either as Munetoshi is a pretty good brand. Next is the SBG Custom Wakizashi/Ko-Katana. The next batch is scheduled for February/March 2012, so it'd mean a bit of a wait, but you can customize it in dozens of different ways without paying extra (unless you opt for some of the new extras at the bottom of the page). Lastly, if you would just prefer something ninja-esque, there's the Hanwei Iga and Kouga Ninja-tos. Our own SwordFan has the Kouga and quite likes it, I believe. As a bit of forewarning, I noticed you don't seem to like cotton for ito, so if that's a deal breaker, you will have to change the ito on all of these (excluding the more expensive Nisshoku and possibly the Ninja-to) as cotton is the most common material for ito outside of synthetics.
