Hello
This is my first ever post and I am new to swords so bear with me
I have been looking at swords for a while and I am wondering if you guys know of something that would match my criteria that I may have overlooked
I am looking for swords that are differentially hardened with a real hamon and either a brown or green handle (any color besides black as like t-shirts, I have enough black). It would be nice if it could have close to a mirror polish if possible.
I am also quite fond of the Hanwei Shinto with the Dragon Tsuba and would love to get a 25th Anniversary one with the silver although these appear to be sold out.
My price range is under $700 until the sword sickness really gets me
Some swords that I have found already that interest me although not enough to get just yet due to some flaws
Hanwei Shinto - love the sword and tsuba although hard to get when I can get the more pleasing silver one out there Hanwei Bamboo Mat - Beautiful Sword although not fond of the Black and Gold colors
So far I have been looking at Hanwei stuff as the other stuff just seem to be more generic black swords to my eye unless you can suggest otherwise. I currently own a Cheness 9260 Tenchi Sword which will be my backyard cutter so now I am looking for more decorative pieces that I can use if needed.
Hope to get some ideas from you good people

How about a Hanwei Bushido? Seems like a nice and decorative (folded and DH) sword for less than $700. Brown handle.

Yes the Bushido...Not really liking the Tsuba though as I would rather have beast designs
Do Hanwei make the best swords that are functional and pleasing the eye? No other manufacturers?

One thing you could do is get a Hanwei Bamboo Mat, which is about the best sword for the price, and order some new ito(cord that handle is wrapped with,) and have it sent off to someone like forum member frankthebunny for re-wrapping. He can also re-finish the saya in a different color and plate the existing fittings with silver, gold or antiqued. All of this, using great quality materials, would come in less than $700. His site is cottontailcustoms.com/HomeAnother brand to look at would be Munetoshi, which can be bought at Swordnarmory. They have several nice folded DH swords with varying colors for well under $700.

Does the bamboo Mat come in a Bo-Hi version or can any DH sword have a Bo-Hi? I would like a sword in the Hanwei HS steel so this is intriguing

I don't believe that the Bamboo Mat comes with a bo-hi. I'm not sure which of their sub-$700 blades that have one besides the Practical XL Light, which I'm not sure Id recommend as a show piece.
Some of the Munetoshi's have a bo-hi. They are a pretty good value for the money, and well built.
You could also look at Hauwei on ebay or Sinoswords, as both make custom swords for around $300. As a low-price custom retailer, both do occasionally put out less-than-expect products, and you really need to ride them as they will sometimes try to make substitutions on a piece without alerting you. I've seen some really beautiful swords from both, though, so it's worth considering. you can get a folded blade with a geometric yokote and your choice of either their fittings, or you can get your own fittings and they will mount those. As I said, you just have to be careful.
Lastly, there is the SBG Custom katana. It comes with or without bo-hi and has a very attractive hamon. I'm not sure if they are taking orders for much longer, so if you choose this option you may want to do it quick.

We actually have two different members who are each selling a 25th Anniversary Shinto for around $700, take a look in the classifieds. You probably won't find them for sale from any online vendors because only 250 were made and they sold out pretty fast.
One Hanwei blade I know of with a bo-hi is the Tea Culture which is on clearance for $400 at Kult of Athena. Like the (no-hi) Bamboo Mat it has black ito but you could have it nicely customized to whatever you want.

Thanks for the thoughts...
I have another question
What is the difference between the
Hanwei Shinto
and
Hanwei SHinto Elite?
I understand the 25th anniversary has silver plated tsuba, etc...

If the Shinto line are like the rest, then the Elite will have a slightly thinner, wider blade to better facilitate mat cutting and the normal will have a more traditional geometry.

Ok I just got my Golden Oriole in the mail today and I love it. I definitely prefer the Bo-Hi blades for practice swings so this narrows my search down a little

I went with the Shinto with Bo-Hi as I love the dragon
My next purchase will be the 25th anny Shinto once I can find a good price
Thanks for all your help

Try moving off zero and just get a sword . With that in hand you can realize what you "really should have done". Then you can go about getting "your sword ". It's sort of like buying a broom or a mop. If you don't ever get one you will never know which one was really right for you.
