i like to keep various sized dowell rods and measure out the blade and pick the dowel rod that matches that size best to get an idea of what its going to be like. as for a grip, i wont buy anything with lesss than a 5 inch grip, i still have trouble with my tinker viking because of how small the grip is and how large the pommel is, though i do still love the sword, it would do well with an inch added to the grip for me

I use a telescopic mop-handle, that way I can always simulate the exact lenght of whatever I'm considering.

I just look at the stats....
^shrug*
I find that i can pretty reliably get a mental feel for what i am looking at if I have pictures and a few vital stats... usually even being able to predict where the cog and cop are gonna be... within reasonable tolerances.

I agree, I guess I just base the stats off of the swords that I have and usually get a good mental picture of how it will be. But every sword will have it's own physical appearance in hand and I expect that too.
But I don't think I would have ever thought that the COP would be 5.25" from the hilt with the Sherwood (unless D'artagnan meant to say POB with that statement).

Me, I have borderline dyscalculia. Numbers don't mean a lot to me - my brain can't quite enterpret them. So I pretty much need to physically measure these things up.

Is that actually a thing? 'Cause if so, I just might have it.

A little more on topic, Marc just posted a review on his albion squire that was antiqued. That's what I was expecting when the site said the Sherwood was antiqued. Seems like a night and day difference to me, Marc's squire looks uniquely aged, while the Sherwood just looks sloppy.

@d: I just read through the basic list of symptoms and yeah, most of that sounds pretty much like me. Of the 13 listed, I've experienced all but 6 of them, though it's interesting to consider that it's not only why I am modestly talented in writing, but also why my basic senses are so over-blown.

This is the kind of ageing one of my Albions has.....same as the squire. It's very attractive to my eye.

Yeah Vince, I myself can write away, but am in basic math classes and have always had problems.
@ Dave: If it would have been the case on the Sherwood I would have been a little less disappointed on the whole

Yeh... when that Squire had been mine I loved the antiqued look of the fittings on it... thought it was VERY well done.
