Hello all! Man...things move quick in the sword world...two days ago I could view WE's blades @ HRelics....the site is non-functional today. Not a good sign! I also found that WorldWide wants exactly twice as much for a WE made 1860's Light Cav. sword than KOA does for a Windlass made 1860's lt. Cav. sword. NO BRAINER THERE! EDIT:...am I missing something here? Does anyone think that WE's blades are better than the Windlass, or is this just the way the WE has to be marketed. MAYBE...KOA is just having a super sale, I haven't been around the market that long. Anyway you'all come back...ya heah! EDIT #2: Having thought about it a bit longer, maybe I'm being a bit unfair in my evaluations! Its like comparing Fords and Chevy's and Mopars....I've never own a Ford, don't know why, just never bought one. I've never owned a WE made sword either so I can't fairly pass judgement on them. I have a Deepeeka that I thought was a piece of junk but it turns out its a great beater...so I guess its user preference just like everything else. I guess the old saying is true...never judge a book by its cover. Eventually I might get one of WE's swords...they do look good. Yes...there's another old saying too....open mouth only to change feet!

www.weaponedgeindia.com/That's the official WE web site, if you want to see what they have available. Even this isn't an up to date and correct catalog. Nobody beats Kult of Athena for prices and reliability in service. Based on experience I wouldn't be swayed by marketers offering cut rate prices from no store front reorder portals. They may come thru for you. They may close the shutters and disappear in pixel oblivion for lack of business. You'll never know. Windlass is a major player in the edged weapon industry. Most military edged weapons in the world have a Windlass component nowadays. Doesn't mean Windlass is the best at anything in particular, just the lowest bidder with a great track record on deliverables. Weaponedge is a niche sword maker with a unique sword type and a low demand following. Their swords are excellently finished, with carbon steel sometimes as low as 1040 grade. It will cut but is functionally at the lower limit of acceptable weapons grade metal. The other problem with WEs is that their weapons dynamics are almost universally off compared to what they are historically ( grips too short, hilts scaled down and dynamic tapers not ground to spec ). So you're kind of stuck playing with this stuff. You have to know your history and know you're market or be prepared to take delivery on a dead fish wrapped in newspaper. ( I have a few. And worse tales. )

Thank you for that response, Sir! It certainly demystifies the radical differences in prices around the industry. I don't fault anyone who puts their heart and time into the creation of what many might see as a work of art, nor do I fault them for asking a good price for the products they come forth with. There are swords across the net by different makers that I would love to own. However, nearly every one of them has, as I have recently discovered, built a healthy following with a high level of respect for their products here on the forum. I guess its the same in any industry though, there will always be the low bidders, and I suppose that's a necessary thing. I will be diligent during the learning process because I do enjoy the research from which I am acquiring a better knowledge of history and a renewed respect for those who were there. Please continue to put those great illustrations and historical info in your reviews....I do enjoy them, and have, after reading them, continued to research the history matter in depth. I do appreciate the link Sir! Again I thank you!
