I've not handled the Cluny, but I owned a Munich, and the Cluny looks like it is just a more expensive Munich to me... where I you, I'd go for the Munich over the Cluny... but I am VERY interested in the Brescia, as everyone I've talked to who has had one is in love with the thing. Sounds like they got it right with that one.

You could also look at one of these filmswords.com/2012/2012-alpha-omega-sword.htm I think this is just as nice as a Munich looks to be based off same blade, but with a better guard and hilt, they are brilliant to handle I have had one for a year now with no complaints and you can get a nice matching Dagger too.

Mc- They did not have a Munich. However I did indeed inquire about the Munich, as many had requested, and Mike told me it is a different animal as compared to the Cluny. The Cluny has a ver slim blade, and the hilt leather is more textured. I myself don't think the balance of the Cluny can be beat, merely because the Cluny is so like. The omega was a bit on the lighter side, but not so much as the Cluny. If I were to venture a guess I would say Cluny as the lightest, Omege, than the Munich, but that is just guessing.
I did not have the chance to handle a Brescia Spadona, but if I could infer the quality of the museum line Cluny along with the type of sword the Brescia is, I could venture to say that it would be an excellent sword.

The Munich and Cluny are VERY close in specs... Cluny
Overall length: 48.75" (123.8 cm) Blade length: 38.625" (98 cm) Blade width (at widest): 1.5 " (3.8 cm) CoG: 3.58 " from cross (9 cm) CoP: 22 " from cross (56 cm) Weight: 2.5 lbs (1.14 kilos)
Munich
Total length: 48.5" (123.2 cm) Blade length: 37.25" (94.6 cm) Blade width at base: 1.54" (3.9 cm) CoG: 4.875" (12.38 cm) CoP: 22.5" (57.2 cm) Weight: 3 lbs 2 oz (1.415 kg)
Everything is within a couple cm or less of each other... the biggest difference being the weight. Now if the Cluny does weigh 10 oz less then the Munich... the thing must feel almost weightless, like a paper sword in hand... because the Munich felt VERY light to me.

It does indeed feel weightless, almost like you aren't holding anything, for a relatively large sword. Think it is excellent because it is so different from the others. And lets not kid ourselves your a bear of a fellow aren't you Sean? I'm just a little guy.

Well with a POB of under 4", a long blade like that, and weighing 2.5 lbs, I could easily imagine the Cluny feeling like nothing in hand. I've never handled any Albion, but I have handled an ATrim 1506 (2.5lbs) and an ATrim XIIa.4 (3.25lbs) which have similar blade lengths, and it is like night and day for me (also not a big guy here).

True... I'm a big guy... but like you, my background is in fencing not in cutting swords. The Munich felt like a giant rapier to me... I wanted to stab the crap out of something with it.

Thats what I felt about the Cluny, as I have held heavier rapiers. But it could cut, which I was quite surprised about.

Thanks of for all the opinion guys, it really helps.
Sean,
While the Munich I owned did thrust VERY well, it cut equally well for me. I was going to send it off to Brian over at DBK and have a custom grip done that was closer to the sword it was based on but I had to del off the collection before I could make that happen. Shame, he did such a good job on my A&A GBS I bet it would have come out splendid.
The Brescia was GREAT at both as well. It was definitely a better cutter, but the Munich was no slouch even next to it.

So guys,
This thread wasn't nearly as successful as I had hoped it would be for the amount of work I put into it. The next trip is looking to be this coming monday (a week from this post). Tell me what I can do differently. I won't be pressed for time. Would you guys like different right ups? More impressions? Requests for specific blades? Comparisons? More photos? Let me know what I can do so I can make the most out of this next trip for you guys.

Man, awesome thread! Really enjoyed the read. For your next trip, if you're able, I'd love to get your impression of the Hospitaller.
You definitely did put a lot of work into that post, but maybe some people just haven't gotten around to posting (like me...lol). I definitely would not have looked twice at many of the models you posted, as they aren't to my taste, but I do like the write-ups.

Can't speak for anyone else... but I found your write up to be VERY well done, helpful and informative. Any info you can offer on any of the Albions I'm interested in, I'm greatful for. Many thanks!

Thanks a lot both of you. Sorry I wasn't fishing for compliments there at all. This forum has taught me just as much as I've learned at University this semester and I am only seeking to try and give something back and would like to know how best to do that! You guys are all like family

I second Sean's sentiments. This thread may not be super popular, but the amount of info gotten out of a, what, half-hour/hour long visit and spending only 5 minutes with each blade? Astounding.
As for the next visit, maybe check out the Cherusker & Auxilia. Oh! I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'd find it very interesting if you were able to compare the one-handed XIX offerings; a side-by-side of the Condottiere, Kern, Doge, and Machiavelli. I'd be personally interested in seeing the ways they differ from each other.

I also have found nothing lacking in this thread......in fact, everything in it has been informative and relevant, and different than the run of the mill thread. I am interested in Albions and am hanging on every word and pic. Thanks D!

I also thought that this thread was very informative, and really liked getting your impressions on a number of swords. It's an awesome way to contribute to the forums here. As far as improving it, do you think they would be cool if you showed up with a bunch of tatame mats on your shoulder and asked people to clear some space in the lobby? Just kidding; I liked what you did the first time, talking about how these swords feel in hand and in a dry cut. When you do return, I was wondering if you could check out the POB on the Knecht and see if it is really at 4.5" like they list. I read that you felt the POB was further out and I know that manufacturer's stats can be off sometimes. If they had any other messers out there I would be interested to hear about how they felt as well. Thanks again for taking the time to give us your impressions, and have some karma for your efforts!

I will try and compile a list before next monday on specific requests and post it here. They keep a few in the back. And unfortunately they don't carry every model that they have listed on their website. I would love to fulfill all of your requests believe me, because especially when we are talking Albion price range, I'd be damned buying one without someone's input who has actually held the blade.
A good example is the blade I picked up from them the first trip. And it is unfortunately a sad tale.

Well, I do not have the pictures loaded up yet. And will try and do so tonight. But I picked up the Sherwood and was very disheartened with my purchase. Partially my own fault. And secondly some not so good craftsmanship. I will do a full review and put up pictures here as well.
