I finally got around to disassembling my Strongblade Archer's Sword--I wanted to check out and oil the tang, etc. The sword is the tempered model. However, due to my lack of experience, I'm not certain that the tang is "beefy" enough for functional cutting. That's where you guys come in! I've read a wealth of good knowledge and info in these forums, and I hope you can tell by the pics if my sword is capable of at least cutting soft targets. The sword's name is "Agkistrodon Contortrix", which is the scientific name for "Copperhead" (as in the snake), as the grip is wrapped in copper wire. As far as asthectics, I absolutley love this sword. But I didn't buy it to hang on my wall...

Hmmm . . . personally, I like my tangs to be a little wider-- as one website states, "at least half as wide as the blade itself". That doesn't look that wide to me.
One thing to consider is this: Does the tang look welded on? If it does, *don't* cut with it.
As for *soft* targets: What do you mean? Tatami mats? Bamboo?

My two cents...depends on the sharpness of the edge and the "softness" of the targets. From the pics provided, I would try water filled milk jugs. Almost any sword will safely cut those. Then try your slash and thruster on some pool noodles. After that? Caveat gladiator!

The milk jugs are what I had in mind.
