Agree with Marc... I'm much more of a Euro guy, I have 6-7 Katana but a 3-4 times that many Euro in my collection, even after the big sales. While I love the Euro swords more then the katana... the variety, the connection to my ancestors... some of the really good Katana I've handled... lime my Oni Forge Ryu. Kris Cutlery Katana, Hanwei Bushido... they have really impressed me. Marc's James Raw Katana is HEAVILY used... but hold it and you can see why... it feels alive. The awesome-ness of the Euro sword can not be denied... but it does not make the katana less awesome.

Sure, you're right, it really depends on what works better for you. My statement wasn't absolutely serious but I personally much prefer Euros. I am of course biased since I do european sword fighting and honestly have no idea how to use a kat. Last week someone brought his Hanwei Bamboo Mat to to class and while I have to admit I really liked it, given the choice between it and a high quality longsword I'd always pick the longsword. For some people it might be just the other way round.

Actually the German HEMA group, Hammaborg, has a theory that seems, when seen in practice, pretty damn plausible. These guys go at it with just as much force as any performance group I've ever seen and if it works for them I'm going to have to assume it just works. Here's the video.............
I'll say it again.; I'd really like to see a leather or regular cross option on these swords.
Besides boiled leather is pretty tough by the way.

Alright, I got the sword back from Dadaochen, and he did a very nice job sharpening it up. Here is a video I made. Just fair warning, I am cutting on an awkward small stand, so it would do quite a bit better on a better stand - also, ignore my HORRIBLE first cut on the water bottles.
