Hello, I was looking at swords, and found you guys here. I was watching the video of old Odell when he broke the sword and it looke4d like it cut him. Does any one know how that turned out for him? I am also looking at a purchase here soon. Anyway, look forward to hearing what you have to say.

He's talking about 1101-1816, the infamous home shopping sword incident. Don't know how things turned out for Odell's partner, but I'm guessing he got the rest of the night off work, and hopefully he stopped bangin' cheap stainless swords on the table. Welcome to the forums, man!

Thanks. I know from experience, that a decent size piece of stainless does not have to be sharp, or moving to fast to wreck your day. If all went well, there should be a picture of the aftermath of a friends homemade knife piece being stuck in my arm. That looked like a one foot or bigger piece that hit him in a soft area. It could not have been good. Attachments:![mail.google.com.jpg](//storage.forums.net/1694914/thumbnailer/sBg4iA557dtUePkzQXXP.jpg)

Ah, the Home Shopping one - of course . I didn't know anyone's names. Not sure if anyone has ever heard what happened after the camera stopped. I myself have wondered how deep it punctured him- he makes it sound like it could've been kinda bad actually...

The piece that got my arm was smaller and traveled about a foot. The piece that got him was about a foot, and it traveled further. Looked like it got hm in the gut. I know what he did is not proper sword behavior, but will the high carbon and chrome vanadium steel swords do this to ?

From my understanding, it's much less likely that non-stainless would snap from that kind of abuse, but any sword can break. If you had to bang your sword on the table, I would go with some 9260 or 5160 spring steel over anything else.
That's a nasty cut on your arm, dude, I bet that bled like crazy being where it is. I think that the guy from the home shopping network could have easily cut his arm and his stomach in that accident, but without a doubt he wounded his pride.

Actually when it happened I felt nothing. The guy just started yelling "sorry, sorry". It bled for about 5 minutes and stopped. I have not seen that show since 1999. Wonder if they even do it anymore? Well hope he was ok, and no, I dont plan on hitting tables with swords. Defiantly not after watching that video.

It was a silly one, but the cheap knives came in handy for me once. Back when I painted I bought 50 small liner licks and had them engraved with the contact info for my business and handed them out like business cards. I use Opinel Knives when I can.
