So, I'm looking for a good pocket knife for my baby sisters 10th birthday. It's a family tradition that on our 10th birthdays we get a folding pocket knife. I'm trying to find something under $35 that could be considered a "girls knife" that isn't horrendously pink or princessy. (no naked lady engravings, and best that it's a standard blade instead of a wavy/serrated one) Something she could take camping, use for gutting fish, general use. I've been looking at some of the Victorinox blades, the one I got was the huntsman, but I'm considering some variety. www.amazon.com/Swiss-Army-56201- ... 457&sr=1-2 Any opinions here are appreciated. Thanks!

Well, here's a nice small folder that will get the job done. Good size for a 10 year old and not overtly girly. m.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=622Edit:, if it's to small, similar models are listed, and it is available cheaper else where. Just a good starting point I think.

Might I ask, what in the hell's a "girl's knife"? Last I checked, a knife was a knife, regardless of who it belonged to. Anyways, for that price point, any of the Spyderco Value Folders are viable options (except the Resilience). There's also the Kershaw Chill, Benchmade Lone Wolf Mini-Tailout, or, for something very traditional, the Svord Peasant Knife. These are more geared towards EDC rather than hard utility, but I haven't heard too much negative about them, so they'd probably serve those purposes, as well. @wallace: Um... You do know that the Spyderco ParaMilitary is a 100$ knife, don't you?

I believe he said he wanted to stay away from serrated blades. This is what I would buy if I had a little sister. Not to big, only 2.5" blade, kinda "pretty" and its united cutlery so the quality shouldnt be an issue. budk.com/United-Cutlery-Rainbow- ... ding-Knife

I've always liked the classic multi-bladed pocket knives like this CRKT: www2.knifecenter.com/item/CR6065 ... whittler-3 This one's a little over your price limit, but would be a great first knife with good blade steel: www2.knifecenter.com/item/BU342B ... 2-5-8-inch EDIT - To Mr. Wallace: the link that you put up brings me to a different product every time I click it, so it's hard to see what you originally wanted to link.

It is my opinion that every person who will grow up with knives should own an Opinel at least once in their lives: www.opiknife.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Opinel-No-8-carbon-steel-folding-knifeNot tactical in the least so as to be legal in most jurisdictions, an interesting locking mechanism that still encourages safe blade practice, carbon steel to have a long working life while teaching blade maintenance, and a timeless look.

The blade linked isn't serrated?

Thanks guys, gave me some great ideas. I'm probably looking towards the UC rainbow knife or the benchmade lone wolf.
I'll let you know how it goes, her birthday is on the 1st of December.

Swiss army knife is a perfect first pocket knife knife.

Well, my first suggestion would be this, but a Swiss Army Knife would be an acceptable alternative.

If the colors are the issue, you can always Duracoat the blade and grip. Plenty of colors to choose from.

This is my wife's favorite knife because it fits in "girl jeans." It is very high quality and nice and "petite" for lack of a better word - very cool "girl knife." www.gerbergear.com/Industrial/Kn ... nife_45898

This right here. I just bought my first SAK prob about a month or so at this point, and it's seen tons of use. I bought it from swissknifeshop.com, it came pretty quickly and the pricing was great. I bought myself two knives, www.swissknifeshop.com/shop/swis ... army-cadet for my EDC in the little coin pocket of my jeans (literaly fits like a glove, like the SAK was made to go in there) and www.swissknifeshop.com/shop/swis ... d-stayglow for my keys. I've heard over at bladeforums.com that the SAK in the alox (that textured surface vs. the smoother plastic rounded ones) lasts longer overall and has better durability. That said, I wanted a pair of tweezers as well as those scissors (honestly, I used to hate the scissors when I was younger, but I've used them almost as much as the knife on my Cadet). I'm doing the same thing for a little older family members for Christmas, buying SAKs, I mean. After having mine for a very short time, you just simply can't go wrong owning one of these knives.

The SAKs come so darn sharp. Cut myself so deep, I still have the scar from ten years ago. used an old climber for knife thowing...took dozens of tries and it only broke the smaller blade.
Currently have 4 saks, including the alox farmer.
only problem I have is they have no pocket clip so I modded out my climber 2 w/ one. They get lost easy but then again, they are super cheap.
