He seems to have his shirt off more than he is wearing one lol I though that too, isnt it illegal to carry swords in public? Bokken included?

I'm really just starting out with using a Katana and I wasn't going to voice my opinion being new here, I read all the post and you guys didn't think very well of the film but since I really did, I thought compelled to at least share my take. In the very beginning Mr. Dacascos clearly states the objective of his movie, he would be traveling to Japan in search of the greatest Samurai. As it turned out it happened to be Musashi. And I think he covered his life pretty well from his humble beginnings to his last years in a mountain cave. It seems to me IMHO the film was more about Mark Dacascos's journey searching for his family link to a great past culture ...the Samurai. As he said ...."if it really still even existed." I don't think this "documentary" was meant to be about Musashi but more about one man's journey in search of his lineage. As a complete neophyte I learned alot about the life and times of the Samurai and look forward to learning alot more. Peace BTW thank you for posting the link! P.S. Musashi was one tough hombre.

Hey, it's always good to hear new opinions, even from the new guys. Just for fun, here are some links to some other great programs on Samurai and Japanese swords.

I liked the show. Took in stride the actor's showmanship and watched for the historical vs modern juxaposition.
BTW, Marc now plays Wo Fat on the regenerated "Hawaii Five O" program on CBS.

What you said i very true. I guess everyone takes something different out. I assumed it was a 'Musashi' story. Having read his biography, book of 5 rings and another 'fantasied' version of his life, i was expecting more. So you could see from my point when a shirtless attention seeker is swinging bokken around in Tokyo, to me it was bit silly. Had he spent those times maybe shooting more stuff around Musashi's home or in musem's, it would have more knowledge and education and less 'hollywood'. Which is what ive come to expect from stuff done about a man such as himself. Maybe if i didnt know much about Musashi it would have been great. I did like how the Anime portrayed his battles, seems pretty much how i read it too. Just a bit more bloody. Also the Japanese narrator speaking lines out of his book of 5 rings was nice to compliment it

The name looks promisingly empirically grounded.

Yes I have. I generally liked it. But it could have been better without the annoying dramatization and the annoying narrator.... Thanks for posting those other videos.Im going to have to save them for watching later.

plan on looking at it now. marc dacascos has been around for a while, getting his start in the double dragon movie, kickboxer 5, and american samurai. made it big playing eric draven in the crow series. and now gets his checks from iron chef as the chairman. movie wise he seemed to be a decent martial artist, I think he had a few titles won too in tournaments before acting like most do. sorry I kinda like him...

I agree I think you guys are hating on this guy when I see him as a good narrator of this doc. I thought he did a great job, h kept making a lot of points that got to me about Musashi. I didn't see him cocky or boastful in any way. The only thing that gave me that idea was when he said "I understand this sort of determination, I've done it myself". didn't even seem that cocky to me. The whole bokken in the city streets thing was kinda cheesy/illegal. but I'm sure they had permission to film it and his kata wasn't even that bad.

Different strokes for different folks. I thought it was a decent show. Mark is a great martial artist, and comes from a family of great martial artists. I am a fan of his. Not a huge fan, but I like him. As has been mentioned, it is better if you watch this as a show about Mark learning about Musashi and his style, not so much about Musashi himself.

True that my friend. Oh well, I enjoyed it. It inspired me to start really practicing with my sword again, instead of just making them.
