Hello all, I bought me a Katana from MRL a while back for $169.00. It is a beauty, so light, perfectly balanced and fast! On my receipt it said "Handmade Practical Katana". So I called them and asked who made it. The guy looked something up and told me it was made by Master Cutlery out of China. He said since Japan outlawed selling or exporting katanas, etc, that some Japanese swordmakers moved to China and set up shop.
Anyway, has anyone ever heard of Master Cutlery? It came very sharp and I performed my first real cutting test with it on one of those rolled up mat things, stood up in a cutting mat stand I bought from them also. Before that all I have ever cut, and that with my Viking Swords, was various types of fruit, pumpkins, etc, and even a Yucca plant. But the Katana cut it as if it was not there. I literally thought I had missed it until I realized a four inch piece of it, cut clean, was rolling on the floor. I will post a complete review of it soon. If it wasn't getting on into the night I would do it now. Probably tomorrow or over the weekend. Take care all, FB

Hello DJG, I will do a review of it later, but for now, as to your question, there are absolutely no marks on the blade anywhere or the brass "wrap" near the guard. The tsuba is bronze and is a dragon circling around eating itself or passing its tale or something. It is hard to tell. The skin of the dragon is very rough like the ray or sharkskin, or scaled.
On the small bronze or copper band right behind the tsuba, on the forward part of the handle or grip is also a dragon coiling in and out of view. The handle is white ray or shark skin (fake?) wrapped in black cord with a bronze or copper pommel, also with a smal dragon on it. ON the handle there is one copper rivit about 1 1/2" back from the tsuba. There is a small silver dragon on the same side about 3" back from tsuba. There is nothing else on that side but on the other side of the handle is another small silver dragon about8 1/2" back from the tsuba and about 3" from tip of pommel. The handle is exactly 1' from tsuba to tip of pommel. There is no other markings.
I hope that helped. I will post a review with all measurements soon. Freebooter

I checked out the e-bay link you provided on my katana's review thread, and I can't really tell which of the Master Cutlery brands is mine. They all have the same tsuba and all. FB
