I was thinking about getting this sword kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=PC2063 for Christmas and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it or knows someone who has. Kinda curious if it's sturdy or sharp out of the box and all that stuff.

There's an old, but still valid on the main site, here that should answer just about all your questions; it's a good looking sword, but I hate the way the scabbard looks. As Paul said, it's practically useless.

Don't really know much about Hanwei Kung-Fu Sword. Though it looks somewhat similar to an ox-tail (Nui-wei) sword , the blade is too thin and the overall blade is too light compared to a typical ox-tail sword. I personally would not cut with it. If you do, make sure the handle is nice and tight and I would try it on some light targets first.

Nice cutting Dadaochen. I still think the blade is too light to be used for heavy cutting. A typical dao of that size should weigh around 2lb if I am not mistaken. Anyway good point on the PoB of the sword. From KoA specs, the balance too far towards the blade, which is somewhat tolerable consider the weight of the sword. Perhaps a slightly longer handle might help the balance. Anyway for ~$130, is could be a lot worse. Here is some examples of Niuweidao if anyone is interested forum.grtc.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=498

If you're interested in dao you could look at the Military Dadao; it's a pretty decent sword. Not an one-hander, no, but with the weight of the blade that may actually be an advantage. Plus, it's silly-cheap!

this is the only sword i have, and so i''m very happy with it. but, the scabbard is plain crap and the balance is not so good, it feels too heavy and slow for such an blade, even if it is a broadsword. but then, who am i to judge while i have only handled one sword in my entire life. i bought it for the looks and the price, and those two i still like

I have one, bought it because i like daos. I did wushu and did well with daos, however the practice dao is very very different compared to handling this dao.
It cuts well over head and BAM like butter, however IMO it feels not very balanced (the POB is 8", i think i like one thats near the handle for easier thrust and swing....the tinfoil dao was pretty light so thrusting is easy) but i guess this is ment to do a full swing not short fast ones...which i like. Maybe thinken the near the handgaurd it would better?
in a zombie attack i would not carry this lol
