I have a Shura, Kaze and Higo. I can say that the thickness of ea. goes from .35, .325, .3 in order listed. Each has it's own character. For instance; Higo cuts paper. Not so easy with Shura due to thicker blade. So it is hard to say which is "more sharp" because it depends on target. For instance; Shura feels better cutting through thicker targets than Higo because of the forward momentum generated by the heavier Shura blade. On lighter targets like paper, Higo shines. Have not cut with my Kaze, waiting to have extra cash for goza, etc..
Never owned PK or PPK, so I can't compare. I don't ever see a need to get any more blades based on my experience with what I have, very pleased. Hope this helps somewhat.

I don't know if you've read this article on the Cheness website, but there is such a thing as a sword that is too sharp (or perhaps more correctly, too thin..) The Tenchi does not feel sharp. And it tends to underperform a little on lighter targets (where, as Migz pointed out the Higo does well - and the Kaze is somewhere in between). But it really shines the heavier the target becomes due to the nature of the 9260 steel and the niku (meatiness) of the blade. So to directly answer your question - the PPK, being a thinner blade, feels sharper to the touch. Only problem is, it cant handle half of the targets the Tenchi can. Or to put it a slightly grumsome way, the PPK would likely sever a hand. The Tenchi and the Kaze would take off an arm... Hope this puts things in perspective!

It's thicker and heavier (some say too thick and heavy). But it is sharper and, as the old saying about Cold Steel Katana goes 'handles like a crowbar - cuts like a lightsabre'. Essentially then it comes down to a matter of personal taste... In my opinion, the best all round cutter of the Cheness line is the Kaze. The Tenchi is much more of a heavy duty blade. Hope this helps. Cheers, - Paul

I would certainly agree with Paul's assessment regarding the Kaze. He hooked my up with a 30" nagasa Shura, a 28" Kaze and a 21" Shura Ko and the Kaze is overall the best of the bunch. It was a happy mistake indeed which landed me a Kaze instead of a Tenchi. Given the durability of the 9260 blades, I am not sure that a solid-bodied blade is even worth the extra weight on any model EXCEPT the Kaze.

a quick question for those of you who own both a kaze and a shura/tenchi how big is the differance in cutting mats? since the tenchi/shura has a "appleseed" edge it isn't as sharp as the kaze, can it still cut like double or maybe even triple mats?

The Tenchi is very sharp, just ask my thumb! Cut right through my cleaning towel and into my skin like it was butter, damn! I would say go for the Cheness blades, for the price I seriously doubt you will be unhappy, I wasn't! Jim
