They are just a step ( maybe even a baby-step ) away from what would be classed as a Wall-hanger.I believe these swords will take over from the old 440 tempered stainless steel hangers that are now disappearing from sale.
Just go the extra and get the Cheness. I am not a fan of 1045 blades but they will surprisingly take a lot of beating! For instance, if I was in the garden and actually listening to my wife's complaints about the state of our garden. And the brush-cutter was knackered ! I would seriously consider using these swords to hack away at it . It would be no great loss if they were to break in action, you just buy another one !!

Why are they so marked down? they seem ok, but, you get what you pay for. I agree with chopchop, go that bit extra if you can.

I think the price difference is a fairly standard phenomenon (this happens with just about any kind of specilized equipment, I first noticed it with music electronics.) If you look at a forge's site, they'll usually have an astronimcal MSRP, and sell wholesale at a far lower price. This way a dealer can undercut the forge by quite a bit, which is what the forge wants -- huge distribution, they still get their cut.
In short, they're probably marking down from the MSRP and not the street price, which for swords seems to be something like half the MSRP, but it varies greatly. For example, you might feel better about getting a "$600" sword (MSRP) for $250 (street price) than getting a "$500" sword for $400.
I don't know if that's what's going on. In which case this could be a "$250" sword (street price: ~$100) on sale for $90. But that's just a theory. I really don't know anything about these, and that might be the street price they're showing, but usually (in all things) it's the MSRP they mark down from.
