Just me but i think after all shinai is to resemble a katana so it's just matter of that it's safer to use a shinai instead of a real katana ( even if blunt ) for practice?

The Nihon Kendo Kata are a set of kata meant to be learned by Kendo players for traditional form practice (as a rank requirement, and for discipline). Kata are usually performed using bokken (like kenjutsu), but can be done with iaito or shinken (as in the video).
For usual Kendo practice and matches, we wear bogu and use shinai.
Shinai=bamboo sword Bokken=wooden sword Iaito=blunt katana Shinken=real katana

aaahh had read kendo and real sword arts were incongruous, and that kendo was a discipline strictly unto itself, usin shinai only, and that after bokken. still, the nihon kendo kata will mesh nicely w/ the shinai for our grandaughters. they love the form and ritual of approachin each other w/ sticks. thanks

basically: Kendo is JSA as a sport (fencing with shinai), and Kenjutsu is JSA as a traditional killing art (kata with bokken). and the Nihon Kendo Kata are where they overlap.
