Because excess of work and my problematic personal life, i'm distant of this and much others of my activities... But now, i take a day to rest and i'm enjoying the free time to make a post here.

The motive?

Well... Just to present you the new member of my "family". My new (And first) Katana:

I take that a few days ago in the post office near of my home here in São Paulo, Brazil (not was delivered to my home because is an international order). It cost me something about R$ 260 (U$ 150 including delivery, taxes and all things...), i'm proud to paid every coin! (Well... Ok, ok... I'm VERY angry by having to pay the thiefs of the government... but i didn't have other way)

Back to my Sword:
It's a very nice blade made by Musashi Swords. It's much heavy than i imagined and is a little hard to familiarize with the balance when i swing for the first time (Now i know the way to take that and it's no more a problem

), but anyway, is a good sword.

The ito is very grip, the blade made with 1045 steel is sharp like a razor and very solid and tough. Even the fake hamom is a work of art, don't have comparison with the stainless katana for sale in stores here (Only the price is equal)

The better thing: DON'T HAVE "MADE IN CHINA" OR MUSASHI's LOGO IN ANY PLACE!!!

The only con point is the same, wich not involve completly the handle, only the laterals, and the blade fixed for some epoxi glue in the tsuka, but it's acceptable for that line of price.

Well... I'm very happy with this. Is my personal treasure, the reflect and extension of my soul, symbol of a deserved vitory! (a little dramatic...)

Anyway, it's my katana!

my first sword was a through hardened musashi katana, i was in love with it for years and was shocked to find out it was a bottm of the line when compared to all the other offerings. its a hell of a lot of bang for your buck, and he only thing i would have liked to see changed on it was a real hamon or no hamon at all, and real samegawa, mine came with rubber samegawa and i was pretty dissappointed expecially since it was advertised as real same

Kind of tough to see in the picture but it reminds me of the shirikawa line, which sports a faint but real hamon. The price also sounds about right for that to be a shirakawa blade. The glued tsuka how ever does not sound right for a shirakawa blade. Was the product number SS7xx or SS8xx by chance?

Bang for the buck is why I chose musashi for my 1st and 3rd blade. On the 3rd blade I only swapped the seppa's because I liked the cleaner look, not because it said musashi and made in china on it. Frankly I think they should be proud of their work, it is a dang good sword for its price.

This is an uneducated post consisting of my opinions formed by my browsing and looking for information. All things stated in the preceding post are subject to both being wrong and opinion changing as I wander along this path of learning.

bravo... we are very happy for you as most have expressed. this is a wonderful first sword. now if you decide to go for another kat... try the 1060 steel musashi swords. they disassemble way better. al;so in the SBG home page u can find a review of them by Paul. my wife has a musashi babmboo for about 100 bucks from swords of might. i actually got it cheaper because i bought it when out of staock, and had to wait a bit. just a suggestion.

mrstabby: Been thinking the same - but the person that set up the page might not be there anymore and old code gets messy when not maintained. Might be a "repair subscriptions, destroy function X, repair X, destroy Y" situation by now - would mean a total overhaul. Nov 18, 2024 7:29:27 GMT
