I'm very much interested in wire wrapping the hilt of my (soon to come) Windlass Classic Medieval. I've read the portion on it found here... www.sword-manufacturers-guide.co ... -hilt.html ...it seems to be easier than fumbling with leather, as it will be my first re-grip. Anyone have experience with doing this? Any pictures to be seen of SBG members' who have employed this technique? On that note, I plan to use black and silver 26 ga. wire It'll go well with the general appearance of the sword and scabbard. Thanks in advance! - Brent

As a side note of opinion. I would not consider it easier, if done properly. I can do a leather grip with far less effort than a wire wrap. Plus, a wire wrap cannot be wielded nearly as long with a bare hand. That's my 2 cents. Good luck!

I should have mentioned I'm an electrician's apprentice. I work with wire every day, and I'll do some blanks because I'm the constant worrier too! As for the bare hands, that is true...but I should wear gloves for protection anywho right? It's a sharpened blade Your job looks great! With the leather and wire. I appreciate your help! How did you get those rivets on there? Pin hammer?

Just so you know you want a linnin or thin leather wrap on first then the wire...That way it will not slip....

Thanks for the info! Would a thin, even layer of tight bond epoxy work? Or should I put that down, put down the lenin, then another layer of epoxy to hold the wire in place? It would have to be thin enough so as to not come through the wire

I've done a tutorial about my experiences at the old forum: sbgswordforum.proboards.com/inde ... read=10615 I do like the idea of doing it over leather to anchor it, and eliminate the glue coming through. Good luck!

Brendan, your work is beautiful! Very elegant, your thread was the first I looked at actually and have it in my bookmarks. I think I am going to do a couple practice runs first before I try it "for real"...when that comes to pass I'll post pictures with my work...or lack of I found a great video on youtube showing someone working with twisted wire putting it on a fine Italian grip!
