I've got a friend of a friend who wants to trade a nearly new (bought 6 mos. and only 300 rds through it) Taurus Millennium Pro .45acp for my A2 upper... straight up trade.
I've done some research and the handgun can be had at around $370. I've also read a handful of reviews that said the firearm was a good one for the price and while its no Glock or Sprinfield XD it certainly has a good feel to it and shoots well. I've read reports of it shooting 3" groups at 25yds in the hands of an experienced shooter.
Here are the things I'm concerned about:
In the way of larger caliber handguns I've ONLY owned and shot 1911types for the last 10 yrs. My last non-1911 type autoloading handgun that was larger caliber than .22lr was a Bersa Thunder .380 which I liked but sold off because it didn't suite my needs and a Kel-tec P11 (which I sold because I didn't like its DAO trigger). I'm used to the idea of a longer barrel - 5" or more and frankly I'm a bit put off by the3.25" barrel of the Millennium Pro. While I'm not a fan of DAO triggers I've shot a handful of rounds through this particular handgun and its not horrible - I can tell its DA/SA and the initial pull is rather short and light for a DA trigger. SA follow-up shots are quick and clean - trigger pull on both DA and SA fire are almost silky smooth. So in short I actually kinda like the trigger. The sights are fine for me and I actually really like the 10+1 capacity vs. the 7+1 of the 1911.
Anyway the real concern for me is durability and reliability. I've read that in earlier generations of this gun there were issues but those should have been fixed in subsequent generations. Does anyone have any actual experience with this firearm and what are your thoughts? If nobody has actual experience with this firearm then what have you heard/read/opinions?
Just a forewarning - I don't want this to be a "Oh its a Taurus so its crap" thread. I happen to like Taurus handguns and have a Taurus PT1911 and a Taurus .44mag revolver. I've owned other Taurus handguns in the past too and none of them have failed me but I've also never owned a composite material firearm - I'm sure Glocks, Sigs, Springfield and H&K make durable and reliable composite frame handguns but what about Taurus? Everything I've owned from Taurus was all steel frame and slide/cylinder etc.
