I wish to take down one of my Hanwei practical tai chi swords but I can't figure how to do it. Obviously I need to remove the nut holding it all together but none of the tools I've tried will allow me to grip and turn the nut inside that pommel. Anyone ever taken one of these down?

If I remember right, people who've owned them have said that the grips are epoxied onto the tang, so you can't disassemble them.

small box end wrench fits in fine if it is off set, but as vince pointed out they are epoxied... so much i couldnt beat one apart,, and yo would not want to use heat since the handle is plastic.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but its really more of a bump.
Suppose I wanted to do what this guy is doing, take apart a practical tai chi. What I really want from it is the blade. I have some nice jian fittings from an older broken sword that I would love to have a blade for, and lets face it the fittings on the practical are lackluster at best. So assume I managed to get the handle off, even if I had to destroy it. Would the blade be salvageable? Is the tang actually threaded or just all glued in there?
Because if I can use the blade on these other fittings id do it in a heartbeat but im worried because doing this will require destroying the practical. :?
