Hello everyone. I have been standing around for awhile (about a year) and finally decided to join the fun.
My name is Thomas. I grew up in Germany and if I had to guess, that is where my fascination with castles and swords came from. It only took about thirty-five years and a gift from my brother to really bring me back to those childhood fantasy’s. The only difference is, is now I have my own money to play with.
Anyway; I look forward to some good times, some great discussions, and more importantly, meeting some new friends.
Thomas

Hi Chris;
He bought me a $80.00 Atlantean. He also bought himself the Fathers sword. Knowing his wife as I do, and knowing his less than altruistic nature, we'll just say I got the better of the deal.

Welcome aboard.
Talon you are going to have to get yourself a angle grinder with cut off wheel and grinding disc you will be able to do your work alot faster. I wouldn't even try to us a hacksaw to cut out the stuff I do. One of these days I'll get myself a band saw. Did just get a 2X42in belt sander which can also us 1in belts hope to be able to polish things out even better with it. Right now I'm using die grinders and a 4X36in belt sander.

you're not kidding fallen im in serious need of upgrading my equipment,both belt sanders are out of action due to me wearing out my belts (again) so im back to the hacksaw atm,an angle grinder is definately on the shopping list,and i have scored for the works bench grinder (im the health and safety guy at my place and i condemned it due to the risk of the wheels bursting),well they bought my excuse and i've got a free bench grinder :lol:

Talon;
Good Luck with that. I would have already gotten frustrated and probably walked away for a few days. I had more patience as a younger person than I do now. I thought people were supposed to mellow with age.

Doing well, thanks! Luckily last night's quake was minor, only 3.9. I live a few miles from the San Andreas fault line --as do most people living on the San Francisco/San Jose Peninsula-- so a minor quake every few months is to be expected. --Edward

Hello TJ, Welcome to SBG! I'm thinking you may have grown up an Army Brat as did I. I was born in Womack Army Hospital on Fort Campbell. I also lived for a while in Germany and consider Clarksville and Tennessee my home. I just returned from a 3 week vacation there 2 weeks ago. I now live in New Jersey with my wife and my kids are close but my extended family is still all down in TN. My stepmother and her kids and a first cousin who is a teacher at Northeast high school where I graduated from in 81 are in Clarksville and my mothers and fathers sides of the families are primarily in and around the Waverly TN area. I one day hope to retire to that area.

Welcome aboard Thomas!
'Nother Army Brat here - born at William H. Beaumont Military Hospital at Ft. Bliss... GI Father, German mother. I grew up in Germany, primarily in the northwestern part close to the border with the Netherlands at a small base called Soegel (552nd Arty Group). Then spent some time in New Ulm, Bavaria. Went to German school for most of my formative years and almost graduated from the Realschule Soegel before moving back to the US in '92. Developed a fascination with swords due to the dual influences of fantasy RPGs (thanks GIs!) and exposure to historical collections (thanks muttilein!) Somehow I wound up in Oklahoma City, OK where I am gainfully employed, happily engaged and steadily growing my collection.

Eco;
Everyone is talking about the quake that hit VA. and all the states around it. My state is next door and I never felt anything. I guess that is good,but maybe it could be a bad sign on my part too.
Jordan;
Thank You for the introduction. I have seen alot of posts from you and look foward to learning alot and just b.s.ing some as well. Take care.
Bill;
Thanks for the welcome and my regards.
Dave(us)
Yeah, I am an Army brat. Was born in Ft. Lostinthewoods, MO. You were born at Ft. Cambell. I was never stationed here but my father retired here and I keep moving back for some reason or other. I also forgot to mention I graduated from Northwest, but you seem pretty cool so I'll let that slide. It is definately a small world.
Neil;
I was stationed at Ft. Bliss and spent way to much time at Beaumont. Lived off of Trans Mtn. Blvd on the east side of El Paso. As a kid I lid in Weuzburg, Germany. At first we lived in a small town called Eisengen which was about 20 clicks from post. Everyday we would drive past this huge Castle that is 500 years old. (Pretty cool) for a young kid.
A few years later we got to move on post and everything was so much closer. Now DSA has a sword named for the Bishop of Wuerzberg; Johann Von Egolfstein. I am going to have to get that.
I guess after all that time in Germany and then moving to OK. was some serious culture shock. Thanks for the welcome, good luck with the job and really hope the egagement goes further.

It is a small world for those in the military.
My senior year at Northeast High was also that schools first year (81) so most of the students were from Northwest High and Clarksville High ahd we were all integrated. So we were a group from all over and Northeast's first graduating class. Having said that, you seem pretty cool too so I can let it slide as well. lol
My dad also retired back to Clarksville. In Germany my family lived in Bad Nauheim, Friedburg, Frankfurt, Giessen, and Fulda. I got around a bit more and also lived in Italy and Spain for a time and I wore the trains out going everything else when I could. I also lived in Okinawa, Japan, Tennessee, Hawaii, Indiana, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I went to a LOT of schools!
I toured several European castles and lived by two so I also got the bug early.
If you don't benefit in any other way from the way us brats tend to grow up, you should at least develop a healthy tolerance for other individuals and cultures. I guess culture shock became a way of life. The rest of my education went okay too.

Dave;
You seem to have gotten to more places than I did while in Europe. My father had a way of getting what he wanted (we stayed in Weurzburg for 7 years, then Cambell 5, Polk and Carson, 2 1/2 in Veitnam). I was born in 67 so some of those were my older brothers homes.
The odd thing is, is that I also lived in PA. and CO. Now here is the kick in the pants. When I was in the Army I was stationed outside of Frankfurt, right in between Freidburg and Geissen in a little tiny place called Kirchgoens. It was about 6 clicks from Butzbach.
See ya later
Thomas
