Hello all. I'm new here, but figured I'd jump into the deep end of the pool. I'm looking for replicas of ancient Germanic swords. I did a search through this forum and couldn't find much on it. Specifically I'm interested in weapons from the Chatti tribe who seemed to be prominent in the Hesse region from about the first to the 8th century. They were eventually absorbed into the Frankish kingdom. Are there any replicas of Germanic swords pre-dating Medieval period?

As far as I'm aware, the Albion Cherusker (below) is the only example of ancient Germanic swords recreated.

Yes, the Cherusker is basically the only production sword I know of that's specifically Germanic. Everything else out there is custom made. Adrift, if you're interested in having a sword of this type, seeing as it's so rare my recommendation is either get that Cherusker; it's one of the more reasonably priced Albions, even if it looks like a glorified machete Or, as it may not fit your specific interest, I'd suggest doing some in-depth research on the exact swords you're interested in and then contacting a smith to have one created for you. This is probably the most historically accurate approach to getting the specific weapon you want anyway. Good luck and welcome...

Yeah, it looks like a cross between a Falcata and a Messer/Lang Sax.
I and others can make what you want if you have pics, some smiths are expensive, others are not......SanMarc.

I would imagine that a mix of spathae would be appropriate for some of the Chatti warlord types, since lots of Germanic warriors served as Auxilia ('specially in the role of cavalry).

Wow. Thanks so much for the replies folks.
Yeah it does actually. I wasn't sure exactly what sort of blades they carried in that period.
Interesting. I didn't even think of that as an option.
I'll keep this in mind, again it hadn't occurred to me that custom pieces could be commissioned. Thank you.
Good point, and I had considered this actually.
Thanks again everyone. I'm going to have to mull over the information I've gotten from you all here. Looks like I may need to do more research, or perhaps look at swords from a later period.
