I don't cut too often and I tend to have a limited supply of water bottles, so I've kinda learned to clip the bottles down little by little in order to make the most of each cutting session. That made me want to ask you guys: How many cuts do you typically get out of a standard water bottle?
Me, I haven't actually kept count, but I'm pretty sure I average about five cuts per 1.5 liter bottle.

That's pretty good, Anders. I have all the bottles I want so I don't really try to get the most out of each one. I mostly cut those smaller half liter water bottles and I usually just get one cut out of them sometimes two, on rare occasions three or four. More out of gallon jugs.

I'm the same as Ric, I usually only get 1 cut out of a 20 ounce bottle. I rarely have 1.5 or 2 liter bottles but I'm sure I could get more cuts out of those more often.
my best is 5 cuts on one 20 ounce bottle, and I often get two, but average I'd say is one for sure unless you count milk jugs. which I don't

Yup, between one and two and small bottles and up to four on bigger ones (not counting tetra packs).

yep ... one for me on half liters. I could count on one hand the number of times I've gotten two on a half liter.
Milk jugs, my record is 13 I think? but they are easy.

My average is 2-3 cuts on 12 oz bottles, at least 4-5 on 2 liter bottles. My best have been 4 vertical silent cuts+1 vertical cut non silent on a single 12 oz bottle, and 7 on a single 2 liter bottle (personally I do not count cutting 2 liter bottles, too easy due to the added mass). I had my matsu resharpened so I may try going for better scores. Marc, milk hugs don't count man, you can make pepperonni slices on those X

I'm not a great cutter so maybe I don't count but when it comes to smaller water/soda bottles like the 12 and 20oz bottles I usually get one cut when full and another cut when empty. Then I move on to another bottle. That means 1-2 cuts per bottle for me. If I cut a 1 liter bottle I can get maybe 3 if I do everything right but also its usually 1-2 cuts.
I'm with dadaochen - 5 cuts on a 1.5L bottle needs to be see!

Didn't know the smaller bottles were so standard. I do cut half-liter bottles as well, but I don't think I've ever managed more then two cuts on those. Cutting them once just doesn't leave enough weight. I think that's my average, anyway. I only counted once, but it felt like what I usually manage. I would, if I only owned a video camera. Heh. I always react when you guys take a sip of the remaining water, because even my silent cuts tend to knock most of the water out of the bottle. So I have this big barrel of dirty rain water standing by that I use to refill the bottles after each cut. Wouldn't really want to take a swig of that.

Ummmmm I will go watch one of my videos and count I dont usualy because I would forget while cutting. lol
Ok I would say 4-5 overall(all bottle sizes), most ever was 23 on a half gallon milk jug(I picked it up a few times) most on a 5 oz. was 11 with a knife.

one or two cuts for me at best. I have a lot of practicing to do especially with edge alignment and most of the time I'm just happy I didn't swipe the stand, lol. it's not fair to use Greg as an example, he's just a water bottle cutting SUPA FREAK!! (meant in the most respectful sense of course )

hey were's the "check out Tom" video? >poutyface!< I can't get to my own videos but I'm sure I have one of my more recent vids from the game of horse (or S.W.O.R.D.) that shows me doing this. I know I have 3 on video that was one of the challenges and I didn't get a letter, but I thought I had a 5 cut posted in there somewhere too. oh well I guess I can't blame you guys. I have too many videos to sort through.
if the cut isn't silent that's only 1 cut there's no refilling.

I agree... I have done silent empties, but do not think I could EVER... not ever , pull off what Greg did with the 8 cuts on a bottle. Nor 5. I am impressed. Of course you know... selling your soul to the devil for insane bottle cutting disqualifies as sure as tipping it over.

I plan to match or break the 8 cut bottle one day, the one 5 bottle cut on a single 12 oz bottle was done on a tatami omote mat, if I were to try replicating on a flat surface I may yield better results.
 I am gunning for you Greg!
If you could customize as well as you cut, you'd probably be doing 20 silent cuts on 12 oz bottles man. Your skills are devoted elsewhere, and they shine like a damn super nova exploding billions of particles across the universe.

eight? 8! now just you wait. eight? I think I missed that one. I mean I knew Greg had that trick down but I thought he was still stuck on 5 and I thought I was doing pretty good to match him. well damn, now I'm gonna have to get home and match him again. I have had a lot less luck with the tatami. I think the 7 tatami cuts is harder, at least for me it is. we have a pretty fair number of really good cutters here. Ric, Greg, Marc, Ricky, Mike, and I post our stuff pretty regularly but there's plenty of folks who are just as good or better who don't post video. every once in a while I run into their stuff and am blown away. I wish we could get them to post more often (and some of you are reading this, you know who you are, and in a few cases I do too so come on guys get over being shy).

Alright, I had another cutting session today and this time I actually counted. Turns out I average about 5-6 cuts on both 1.5 and half-liter bottles. My best was seven cuts on a half-liter.
That surprised me a bit, honestly. But, again, I don't go for silent cuts and refill the bottles several times, so still nowhere near Greg's feat.

I think refilling and getting 5-6 cuts isn't that impressive imho. Just aim high, refill, aim high. I think I could hit a dozen or more cuts doing that.

Never claimed it was. Like I said, I'm doing this mostly because I don't want to waste good bottles. If anything, I'm impressed that you guys can apparently afford the luxury of cutting a single bottle only once or twice.

You were surprised. Apparently by the context, in a good way. So perhaps it wasn't impressed but you do get the gist.
Well I suppose we cut for different reasons. My cuts are more then anything for feedback for my cutting ability, not to see how many cuts I can get off one bottle. Refilling the bottle means cutting a target that has much resistance. For example purposefully bat a new bottle, then bat one that is empty. Way different feel, and cutting feedback. Does that mean I don't refill bottles? Of course not, I do actually refill some bottles if I have enough bottle left to safely cut without hitting my stand.
I wouldn't consider it a luxury, just bottles you can get plenty of them for free in the city if you look around.
