www.hardcorehardware.com.au/entry.htmlHas anyone heard of this company at all, this could be particularly awesome for aussie buyers who are into tactical knives with liberal amounts of paracord . They seem pretty legit but I've heard nothing of them, the blades seem really good judging by looks and data sheets, they even have a tactical tomahawk which I thought was an american brand one but NO this one of australian. It feels too good to be true, I wonder how they are, anyone heard anything about them ? UPDATE - 09/01/2012 The BFT01 has updated their handles to G-10 in black or coyote tan www.platatac.com/method-of-entry ... 9_1024558/ These really look sick now.

Just found to destruction tests of their tomahawk. Looks good so far, I would like to think that an Australian company could make something cool like this.

The tomahawk looks sweet, pretty much carved up the metal toolbox, and the blade was cutting through into the dirt too! We don't get much cool stuff here in Aus, nice to see something like this homegrown. Just wish this hawk was a tad cheaper, $300 I'd purchase, closer to $400 makes it one of those purchases you really have to think about. Thnaks for posting!

For australians it could be a good alternative to some items that cost usually $40.00AUS to ship from overseas, australian postage often just $10.00AUS. Hey if the ecomony shifts back to what it was 6 years ago when Australian Dollar was half of the U.S Dollar then Americans could in time get it for pretty cheap. But I would say the Australian buck is gonna go hard for a while now which is still good for overseas buying for us I guess.

Hi Guys, New here but saw this thread and thought I'd off up some info. I 1st came across these guys at the following link: soldiersystems.net/2011/04/08/ha ... australia/ back in April (this year), then saw one of their ads in AU&NZ Defender mag. I like axes and you never know with customs what will happen when you try to import something like this, so thought what the hell and ordered one through the site. It took 4 days after my CC was billed to get to me and they only charged be $15 for express post. The BFT which I think means Battle Field Tomahawk is as the site says wrapped in paracord and made from D2 tool steel with a black Teflon coating. My axe came is a box with the usual logo and customer warning about the axe being really sharp blah, blah, whatever. I kind of wonder why makers bother with this type of thing, when I pulled the tool out of its cordura sheath and went to test the sharpness I cut myself - yup deeply too! This thing is shaving sharp, particularly at the bottom of the axe hear where it comes to a point. I’m embarrassed to admit it but it’s true, so be warned LOL:-) Overall impressions: Frankly it has a take no prisoners menace about it that's almost a bit repellent to be honest – it’s got the wow factor for sure. The symmetry of the grinds is nice and finish is pretty well perfect. Not sure now these guys wrap the handle but it’s pretty damn good for something that I guess would have to be done by hand. They must dip or spray the cord with some sort of resin coz it’s rock hard and not going anywhere. I was a bit reluctant to take into the field coz I like my new toys to stay new for at least a little while, but what the hell, this tool is a user so I got stuck into an old disused steal garbage can we had lying around the yard at home to see how the Teflon would hold up – I used the spike end for this, devastating penetration, it’s almost effortless. Pretty cool with the coating too, no real marring of the finish to speak of, so I got stuck into various types of wood (hard and soft), the axe just shrugged it all off like nothing. The cord is a great idea, executed really well, it’s very tight (no movement) and absorbs shock amazingly well, I get now why they use it. It looks pretty very cool as well (minor point). Since May when I bought the axe/tomahawk from Hardcore, it’s been on various hunting trips (a mate of mine even used to dispatch a pig with the spike end that the dogs had bailed up), camping and I really rate it. The price isn’t cheap but considering what it’s made of, the quality of the make and just how tough it is, I am very happy with mine and would recommend this one as I still haven’t had need to sharpen it! I may have to try out one of their knives too, a mate bought a big knife (tanto) after he had a play with my axe and raves about it. A few week ago I got another package from Hardcore (to my surprise), enclosed was a replacement sheath for my axe and a letter offering their new carrier free of charge. The carrier the axe came with in the 1st place was ok, certainly nothing wrong with it but the replacement was fully plastic lined (inside the cordura) and is more like a scabbard than a sheath – this in my view is great customer service and the new sheath is by far a better model. Clearly the Hardcore site has got a military vibe, my only comment about that is perhaps Hardcore should target regular guys like us as well. If it wasn't for the web link and Australian & New Zealand Defender Magazine you'd never know they were here. An Australia knife/tool company - pretty cool! Hope this helps guys. Cheers Scott

Heya Scott/Tanto888 ......... Well done on purchasing one of those tomahawks, its good to hear its held up as completely as it has. These are things we should probably start getting for ourselves before they all gotta go on a class M (Martial Arts) licence. I gotta ask was the pig dispatch done by your mate with the spike to the skull ? cause knowing aussie pigs thats is some BALLSY work. I wouldnt be game with anything less that a Cold Steel Boar Spear. Thats awesome they sent a better sheath AFTER you got one. Thats just brilliant customer service. Did you order this as a civilian or a serviceman ?. Oh and we would love a review in the "Other Weapons" section if you get the time for it. Video would be cool too. Its great to see an aussie company out to make great military style blades and hawks. D2 and Teflon, yeah little pricey but your only decision is whether to pass it on to a child or granchild or get buried with the damn thing ........ Cold Steel's Fighting Tomahawk DVD is a good instructional basics video on how to use hawk for combat. As a tool ......... aussie aussie aussie

i bought a BFK01 a couple months ago its a great knife i cant say enough good things about it thr razor serrations at the back are very very effective they don't get cought when you are cutting things the blade its self is insainly strong ive been using it to cut down small trees to make shelters while im stalking game the knife itself has a full tang and a tanto blade its made from D2 Tool steel it is teflon coated and like most teflon coated knives it does wear. it doesnt come razor sharp out of the box but for this knife you dont want it to be that sharp its a working knife. the pommel is great for spliting wood. if anyone is hit with any part of this massive knife they wont be getting up very quickly. the parracord wrap is as hard as any other wooden or even metal handles thanks to a resin that is put on it the parracord is extreamly gripy i've used it with water, sweat, blood, and oil on it and ive had no problem keeping a ferm hold of it if you do remove the parracord for any reason hardcore hardware does offer a re-wraping service for a small cost the only draw back of this knife is the sheath ive noticed two problems with it one the belt loop is just velcrow and it has came off the belt a few times but ist is fixable and two there are three staps to keep the knife from moving it is a little excessive and its a real pain if you need to get your knife out in a hurry it would be good in other situations but not hunting all up the knife is a A+++ job and the sheath is a B+. PS. i will be doing a review on it and a field test if i have the time.

Actually I would give them an email and see if your existing BFT01 can be modified and have a G-10 handle put on

Yup tried that. I sent them an email this morning, they came straight back to me and said due to the hardness of the handle, the teflon and manner in which the G10 is fixed that this was not an option and that such a modification could compromise the integrety of the handle as the new BFT02 has the holes machined prior to heat treat. I guess this means a new axe.
To be honest I'm very happy with the 01, I might get an LFT instead for something a bit more compact. It's good to have options.

I was just thinking to myself, now mentally picture this because I dont want to post a photoshoped image because that could violate HHA's terms of use of their proprietry material and plus its just rude and presumpious. But ....... Take the lower hand span of the Plataxe LFT01, with its nice moulded G-10, pommel jimping for smashing and then make that the handle of the BFK01 ........ mentally picture that. What you think
