Dave is definitely the one to talk to with regards to sabers. However, if I can input my two cents here; Cold Steel did good to lengthen the grip, even if it was only a half inch. I've got average sized hands and a saber grip on a hilt any less than 4" would be near unthinkable.

After all the Dave Kelly hype, sorry to say I have no 1st hand experience with these sabers.
The original CS offering was a mimic of the British 1827 Naval Officers Saber. It's not a bad light saber, but Windlass seems to think they can pass off square spined blades as being "pipebacked. I have two products with known or suspected Windlass origins.
The pedigree on the new 2011 sword is unknown to me. These dress blades came into vogue in the 1870s. They can't cut for lack of blade depth or weight so pretty much wind up being small sword thrusters. Have had second thoughts about getting the new CS 1852 German Cav, because it looks and stats out suspiciously as an 1852/1876 downgraded sword.
If KOH still has the 1st Gen CS based on the Brit sword I'd say go for it with some confidence. Send an email to Ryan Whitlager at KOH and he'll tell you for sure.

Very elegant and beuatiful. Since the blade seems light and slender, not sure how it would do for cutting, but dang, it sure looks like it would be awesome for thrusting!! Freebooter
