So I've stumbled across this eBay store, and some of the stuff they have up is just beautiful. The best part is, it's all sub-$300. A lot of it on Buy It Now for a mere $99.99. Shipping is a bit much, but the guy's in Indonesia, after all. Check them out, see what you think. I'm pretty sure I want to buy some of these. stores.ebay.com/debakoel_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQfsubZQ2d33QQftidZ2QQtZkm

So I guess you'd say they're a go. Great, now I have to race against YOU... Good thing there are plenty to go around.

I really like the mythology behind the keris. They use a kind of tektite and believe that the sword absorbs the power of its wielders.
I just wish they were available in a "functional" form that could hold up in combat without breaking.

I have a antique that was made for "function and combat" the construction is no different than the modern one I bought....They are not western weapons and are not used in the same way..they were stabbing and slashing weapons, they were not intended for heavy cutting. If you are looking for a modern version that might fall more into what is considered a functional sword check here traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Sandata.html

I just stumbled across some of that site's youtube videos randomly, and found myself interested in some of their stuff. I tried the URL in the video, completely forgetting it was shared here, and just found this thread again through the search function. Have you, or has anybody, purchased from them at all? Are they as good as they look? A quick browse of their site has me believing EVERYTHING they sell is $195. I wonder if that's a glitch? Anyway, I'm rather liking the look of their Sansibar and Ginunting swords. If they're only $195, I might have to grab one, perhaps of each. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait for the infamous question to be answered: Are they any good?

No.. I've yet to purchase any piece from this seller, though I have strong intention to; just too many pieces to choose from & I can't make up my mind as yet. I had been eye-ing one of their curvy bladed keris, but recently I ran across THIS piece & have now set my eyes on it (see, that's the problem!). The only thing's holding me back now is I'm not sure if this kind of 'keris' is authentic.. never seem to come across any in other places, though I love the finishing

Could be a regional variation or just a similar blade style..and you did notice that the hilt and scabbard were replaced.

Yeah, I don't think that's a kris; my first impression was a mini jian, based on furniture then I saw the blade. That's definitely not a kris, but probably a golok or pedang of some type. There are too darn many blade shapes/styles over that way.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait for the infamous question to be answered: Are they any good? Hi all, first post here. I assume you're talking about this site. traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Sandata.htmlI have handled four ginuntings from Ron, and used to own one. (sold it in a momentary lapse of reason, however a new one is on it's way) and still have a barong. They are the real deal. The blades are forged from high carbon steel, and the tempering is very good. The blades also come hair-popping sharp. Imho, the overall quality is amazing considering the price. The scabbards are nothing spectacular, but the quality of the sword more than makes up for it. The owner of the store is a very respectable and competent martial arts instructor, but not a blacksmith so there might be a few buzzwords at his website. But he's a real nice guy to deal with, and will go out of his way to help you. I would not hesitate to recommend his blades. -slow.
