okay, i'm thinking of the hanwei practical kungfu dao again especially since there's a lot of people talking about Chinese swords. what are the pros and cons of this sword? I know that the scabbard is a piece of crap but I'd like to know anything else about this dao. is this sword really functional or is it just too thin? any help is much appreciated!

It is a light duty cutter. I have one and it is very fun. Check out the video in Paul's review on the main site. Also in the Chicks with Swords thread in the cafe, on the last page I think, is a video of a woman demonstrating it against 2 liter bottles. I don't think I'd use it against harder targets than that due to it's thin edge, but on those hanging water bottles it does ring beautifully.

Thanks Pogo, did your sword come sharp or dull? I've seen Pauls review and it seems pretty sturdy, he used it to even cut through tatami mats. Its just that ringing noise that worries me. From what I understand its due to the thin blade but does it feel wobbly at all when you cut through something?

Not at all wobbly more like a laser. For what it's worth my H/T Viking rings on a good cut, too and it isn't super thin--actually by KOA's stats the swords have the same thickness. The Kung Fu has a very thin edge with what amounts to a really long bevel (if you look at KOA's pics you can see it). And it came really sharp.
If you buy it from KOA you can return it for any reason within 45 days.
