I like going through Faganarms catalogs and using it as a guide to antiquing items that i come across. I saw these antique morning stars that they had for sale and like the look. I thought maybe i could reproduce one and gave it a shot. I would be interested in other's opinions since i get a bit focused and loose objectivity after a wile. Does it look old and does it seem to represent the real item. here is the catalog ![](http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh300/mabuse13/morningstarFagans.jpg) these at the cheapest believe it or not are going for 1250. mine i tried to take the feature of the ones i liked and putting it into one polearm. The spikes are antique square cut clinch nails. and the studs on the pole are small clinch nails. the origials have a lot of old pitch on them that was used as a preservative. i tried to mimic turned varnish by using a hide glue then coating over that. ![](http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh300/mabuse13/morningstar004.jpg) ![](http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh300/mabuse13/morningstar003.jpg) i had rusted the pikes but i didn't like how long i had them so i just cut them down so the tips are still black and not rusted like the rest. they will very soon be as rusty soon.

Now that is very cool. Those would be "morgenstern's" I believe, or yes morning stars. A low cost weapon, and not too hard to make if you have the time. I was thinking of building a pole hammer, which is basically a hammer head made out of a smallish piece of a log, mounted on a long pole with spike embedded into it. Similar to this. www.manningimperial.com/item.php?item_id=480&g_id=1&c_id=58Or even a military flail like this: www.manningimperial.com/item.php?item_id=498&g_id=1&c_id=58These kind of weapons are both relatively easy to make and exceptionally accurate too. Effective as well. Your's looks very nice. Square clinch nails you say? Very nice. Square spike are much more accurate then round ones. Very cool. You might want to see if you can find a larger spike for the very end of it. That would increase the thrusting potential, which is what most pole arms were used for after all. Great job.

originally i was going to mount a small blade at the top, but i wasn't able to come up with a large enough pipe to cut a ring from to mount at the top. Also i liked the bulbous look of the one in the catalog and thougth it would be fine like that. I sure wouldn't want to get hit with it. I used some 40 year old oak to make if from so i am pretty sure it is seasoned enough. The square nails were really long and i went a bit spike crazy. they were too long so i had to cut them and file the points in place. what a pain that was. i do like that military flail you noted. It would be a great project. i had trouble getting good pictures of this thing because we have those damn energy saving lights in the house. ![](http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh300/mabuse13/morningstar007.jpg) ![](http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh300/mabuse13/morningstar006.jpg)
