I've always been a fan of the concept of a tonfa with a blade. Heck, I even "made" a toy tonfa sword when I was younger. Anyway, I just emailed Chris at traditionalarcherybows.com/ with this sketch I did today, so I thought I would put it here for input. Obviously, I don't have much skill as an artist, and if anyone wants to run with this idea and upload better drawings, be my guest. BTW, I only drew one, but it's meant to be used in pairs. I've combined elements from the kama, tonfa and short ninjato. Thanks! Cole Attachments:

Hey Cole. For some reason I never got your e-mail. But I can go off of this picture and work you up a bid. Can you send your e-mail address to me, to reply to you? Thanks, Chris

I've updated the sketch and given the name of Dragon Claw - could be changed to Raptor Claw if that name is taken! Cole Attachments:

I'd be interested to see how this one turns out. If it's custom ordered, I mean.
Nice piece

Thanks! Chris got back to me and quoted me a price. It was more than I hoped, but still reasonable. I had hoped to do this as a pair, but I don't think that will be possible.
I'm already about 90% committed to getting a made to order jian from Jin Shi. I practically begged my boss - I mean wife - to let me get the Hanwei Cutting Jian, plus a Jin Shi, on the condition that the Jin Shi would come next year. I thought that was fair considering the time it takes to get a Jin Shi. Now that I passed on the HCJ, I wonder if she'll still let me get one now and another one next year? Or maybe I'll end up ordering both and then say "oops...I didn't mean it!"
Anyway, I've responded to Chris as to next steps, and the ordering process. We'll how it goes. I'll post more updates into this thread as I get them, and if/when I actually get the piece, I'll post a review in the review section.
Thanks!
Cole

Ok, I came to a decision between custom ordering something I sketched and something from Jin Shi. And the winner is.... Both Chris and Garrett have been great, but... Ok, I decided that I couldn't drop down a bunch of money on something that was based off of a quick sketch that someone who can't even draw a straight line drew. Chris quoted me a fair price (too much for me to consider a pair though), but the problem is that his price was based off of a tremendous lack of information - my information. Am I saying this right? See, when people shop for a sword, we go through a bunch of reviews, we practically memorize the specs, the shape, the features of the sword we are lusting after. In this case, cause it's custom made from something I drew, the onus is on me to provide all that information. I firmly believe that the responsibility for a fair deal lies in both the buyer and seller, and in this case, if I were to order right now from Chris, I wouldn't be fair to him. After all, how could he make something that I'm not even sure of? Ironically, if I had done this a year ago, I probably wouldn't have hesitated and ordered right away...wouldn't be the first time! I have two metal RBG's (rubber band gun) sitting in the bottom of my drawer to prove it! Anyway, I've resolved that if I've waited this long to see my vision of a tonfa sword come true, then I can take a little bit more time to think the design through and maybe come up with better drawings. I don't have any computer aided programs, so I'll have to do it by hand. If anyone out there knows how to draw things on a computer, and has spare time, let me know! So, it's back to the drawing board for now. I'm not saying that I will never ask Chris to make this fantasy tonfa, but I'll only do it once I've done a better job at designing it. Chris has had some good reviews on this site, so I know that he'll do good work. Thanks for listening to my whimsical rant! Cole
