Hm. Maybe. I'd have to get the grip totally redone, and naturally the scabbard...but maybe.

A bit of a let down...I liked the design and it looked promising on MRL's website... Then again, I'm sure with a bit of work it could be improved a lot...as far as mass-produced sideswords go, I prefer this style to Hanwei's... Or even put that guard on a much longer blade: www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=19720

Once again, I'm slightly disturbed by how closely Dave Kelly's taste in swords coincides with my own. I had been looking at pictures of this sword on Museum Replicas and wondering if someone would review it a few weeks ago and now voila!
It's unfortunate that first impressions don't seem very good, hopefully the rest of the review will be more positive. From the pictures on MRL, this seemed to be one of the better looking sideswords, sort of a less elaborate and more svelte Gustav Vasa rapier.
Looking forward to the full review.

Exactly what's on my mind, hence why I dared bring back that topic to life even though I'm the WORST lurker on myarmoury . That guard on the Saxon is tempting, I'm really curious about its weight.

Will flesh out the review this weekend. Like too many Windlass products there are always compromises in production to meet a pricepoint. They've taken a 17th Century Rapier and turned it into a 15th Century Cut and Thruster. ( That really just means the blade is 3 or 4 inches too short for the style of the period. If that isn't the case I wish Windlass would give an historical reference for their swords. I know now o fseveral of their past weapons that were at odds with norms that turned out to have correspondence to Musee De L'Armee weapons. ) I like this Saxon. Can't beat the price point. Have to pay significantly more from Darkwood or A&A to nail this one down. www.darkwoodarmory.com/index.php ... cts_id=170 www.armor.com/custom949.htmlHave talked to Sonny Suttles. This Saxon will go to VA to fix the rip and get a decent scabbard. I think enough of it to want to fix whats wrong rather than send it back to Atlanta Cutlery.

Well that says something about its potential right there.
Upon first sighting, I was keyed up over it, but subsequently have tempered my enthusiasm to the point where I will pick one up on the secondary, or in all likelyhood wait for it to pop up on the DOTD.
Although, that hilt would lend itself to a bastard sword blade like a H/T or the like pretty readily. One may wind up with a bit of blade presence in the bargain.

Interesting sword. Great review, as always. Sorry there was so many issues with it though. If anyone can get it the way you want it, in a reasonable price range, it's Sonny.
I have had an issues with MRL responding to emails myself. This issue was well in MY favor, and they never responded to my emails. 3 of them. So i dropped it.

Sorry for being a thread necromancer, but I was wondering if those little three stem like parts of the complex guard are solid, or if they're there merely for decoration. They don't seem very solid on pictures, and I'm not convinced they could protect a hand. Then again, I don't have the sword in my hand!
