Make them yourself is the best option and they aren't that hard to make.

The way I would do it, you can find large washers that are square, they are generally called square plate washers; ![](http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/87/p1703387_l.jpg) Very easy to make stars from them, all you do is grind a convex edge on each long side of the square, so you get a shape like this; ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v458/warlord_gorbad/ninjastar.jpg) The red part is the part that you cut out from the square so you end up with the shape that is in the white. Then you just sharpen all the outside edges and voila! You can also cut them out of steel and heat treat them but those plate washers are the go in my opinion and experience.

Alright, everyone here go out and buy an angle grinder($20), a belt grinder($35), and a diamond block($10), for a sum total of $65. Don't come back till you've got these tools. Then we'll have a limitless supply of sharpies, and we can really talk.

Yeah with those three tools you can pump out a ton of the suckers with not much effort at all. I imagine you can come close to making swords and things with those three items as well huh Bren?

Ahh, the voice of reason in an insane world. Thanks uh... shmoopiebear. Yes it is possible to throw screwdrivers and nails. Once you learn how to find the balance on something, and learn how to throw it properly, you can throw anything. You'll be looking at things saying, hmm, I can throw that! ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I've thrown files(sans handles), screwdrivers, pens, pliars, all sorts of things. As long as they fit in your hand, you can learn to throw them. It's all about finding the centre of balance, and revolving the object around it.

Throwing stars are meant to be a somewhat disposeable item that doesn't have to be great quality in order to work. They're really nothing special at all.
So, I rarely say this, but I would just take a chance on some cheap ones that look decent. (Can be found online at places like BudK [spits on ground] or at those mall knife shops, etc.) Refrain from throwing them at hard objects that could damage them and they should last you alright.
Personally, I wouldn't waste money or effort on making something that I am gonna end up just throwing around, when ones can be had for just dollars per set.

Do you guys think they are effective? I have one. It looks nice and sticks to wood. I can't imagine doing anything other then really pissing some one off. Maybe a headshot at short range might drop someone. After my first one, I have no interest in buying more. Why not use a throwing-axe?

You would say that wouldn't you, ya barbarian! ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) The shuriken were used mostly as a distraction I think, and meant to be hidden in the sleeves or the belt of a samurai or ninja. You fling it at your opponent, then cut them down while they dodge it, or flinch.
