Does anybody make a "functional" fokos/ciupaga (the Hungarian and Polish names, respectively, for essentially the same weapon)? I have seen "tourist junk" grade ones. For those of you who are not familiar with this weapon, it is essentially a walking stick or cane with a head that is usually shaped like an axe (though warhammer heads may sometimes be encountered), while the end that contacts the ground is sheathed in an iron point that could potentially double as a stabbing weapon. In Hungary, only brass-headed ones are allowed, but not steel, due to some uprising or riot that happened long before my time. Seems like it could be useful in an area that bans obvious weapons - after all, it's just a walking stick with a funny-shaped head (especially easy to pass off if the head is brass, and engraved)! I've actually considered buying a silicon brass tomahawk head from Dixie Gunworks and making my own ciupaga (pronounced "chew-PA-ga"). The silicon brass is supposed to be able to take a good edge (though on a walking stick I wouldn't want it too sharp); they are, according to DGW's catalog, recommended for throwing. The pointed steel butt cap could come from Museum Replicas Ltd. (a spear shaft cap).

Atlanta Cutlery offered one a couple of years ago but only saw it in one or two issues before it disappeared

Looks like Dixie Gunworks' tomahawk head # TE0755 in silicon brass ($39.95), plus Museum Replicas Ltd. "Greek Spear Butt Cap" #600036 ($22.00), plus a suitable hardwood shaft (hickory rake or hoe handle?) about 4 feet long, would make for an excellent home-made ciupaga/fokos for well under $100. I'd do it now, but I just spent my limit on a sword...
