Hi eveyone,
Been lurking around the forums for a month or so, learing as much as I can. Made three sword purchaces so far, and got my Son involved. Having fun, and my Kid just loves it.
First sword I got was for my Son, a Cheness Samuri sword. My son is into martial arts and goes on a daily basis. Its been over a year now. I thought it would be cool to get him his first sword. We know its not a toy, and we are both respectful and careful.
I know how some of you guys think about Cheness, but for a inexpensive sword mainly for display and cutting a few plastic bottles we thought it was a good value! My son is taller then me (over 6 foot) so I got him the Cheness 9260 Spring Steel Katana 30. We like it.
Second sword, and I did alot of research, was Hanwei Tinker Norman Sword - Sharp. Great sword, also another good beginer sword without braking the bank. For less than $200 shipped it s a great value, and good sword for the money.
Third is the Hanwei Tinker 9th Century Viking Sword - Sharp. Another winner with out breaking the bank and my Son is in AWE of it.
I am hooked on these Hanwei Tinkers. Good price and good qaulity with out spending a lot.
Best of all, all three swords, completely funtional. My son and I have done some safe cutting of bottles out doors. Pretty cool.
Thanks and look forward to discussing swords with you all!

Hi, pleased to meet you, glad to know you. I'm happy you've been pleased with your sword purchases so far, I own a Hanwei Tinker longsword and, like you, I was impressed by the bang for the buck. I hope you enjoy the forum and look forward to seeing you around.

Hello, welcome to the club. From all I've heard, the Cheness 9260 line is somewhat overpriced, but still a very tough sword. I have a Kaze, and like it just fine. I don't know much about Euro style swords, but plenty here do. I'm sure you'll like it here a lot.

Hey guys, received the KC gladius. This is a high quality piece, really nice. I have not cut anything with it yet but it did come very sharp.
Man I cant imagine a battlefield, up close and personal, fast, crazed killing. Talk about men of steel nerves.
I have been watching some training videos on you tube, showing drills, etc, mostly viking sheild and sword, but if you think about it in a real battle field... anything goes. The training helps but when your intermixed with swords, shileds, arrows flying, axes, etc... I mean with so many men you really didnt have the room.... I am probably wrong casue I am sure the training came into play, but the "fog of war" must have been heavy back in those days.
I am just starting to learn about this stuff so I am totally inexpereinced but I like it. I like learning what the ancients, dark age, midevil, battle field tactics and wepons, and how it all evolved. I can all visualize it a bit. Pretty cool stuff.
