KA-BAR Zombie Killer ‘WAR SWORD’ Review
When i first saw these beauties i just knew i had to have one! I love all things Zombie, and like any other sword loving fan ‘secretly’ hope that one day Zombie’s will be more that a myth and i will get to test my bladed weapons on hehe
So from Tomar’s KA-Bars, i orderd the ‘WAR SWORD’ Version. $80 All up including postage to Australia.
There are 4 to choose from. I chose the one that i thought would be best at dismembering Zombies.
In my opinion, the way the blade is designed is perfect for the job it was intended to do.
The Acheron Skeleton and the Kharon Tanto are more like Tantos, designed for stabbing. When dealing with Zombies you need to destroy the brain and ‘stabbing’ is alot harder than a cutting motion.
The Pestilence Chopper is more of a Machete design. The way the blade curves seemed like a bit of a worry to me as you need to be fast and you don’t want your blade getting snagged on zombie pieces as you hack your way through a horde.
As i was finishing taking the last pictures outside, over the other side of the old tin fence i heard a rustling. It was not there before and suddenly my excitement rose as i realised maybe a zombie had stumbled down towards me for a feast... With Zombie Killer at hand i crept over to the fence and looked over... Only to realise a cow had wandered past and found a nice thistle in amongst the hedges. A bit saddened i head back towards home.
Anyway to the review! The first thing i noticed was how big this thing felt in your hand. The blade presence is very strong. I can only compare with Japanese Tanto’s but you defiantly feel like you have a deadly weapon in hand. The blade itself is alot thicker than i would have expected at 5mm.
Here are my measurements:
Blade: 230mm (Measured from sharpened end to end)
Blade: 244mm (From handle to tip)
Handle: 140mm
Blade Thickness: 5mm
Knife case: 470mm
POB: Perfect for a Knife, right where the Handle meets the blade, so 140mm from base.
Alot of people don’t like the Neon Green of the Handle. Personally i LOVE it, but they thought ahead and you also get Black grips. They also give you a whole new screw set, so you don’t have to use the same securing screws for both grips if you don’t like.
I also really love the little Bio-Hazard Symbol that is painted on the blades and the patch sewn onto the back of the pouch.
Another little extra i liked, was the little blade they throw in. Its got a little pouch infront of the main Knife slot. Its only 162mm long TOTAL length but its a perfect little utility or throwing style knife.
The pouch itself is brilliant. Altho its very big and bulky (also has a HUGE pouch infront which can fit a full can of beer or whatever you like) both Knives have a hard plastic cover that is interwoven into the main pouch. All the straps and sewing are very tough. Its defiantly a Tactical though out design.
With 100’s of ways to attach it to just about anything really, you could wear it however you preferred.
Sharp straight out of the box it makes easy work of bottles. I didn’t want to do any sort of strength or damage test as i only have the one and i would hate to damage it. I can only assume for the small cutting work i did do, i will take ALOT to hurt this thing.
Think that about sums it up really. I not a knife collector and i don’t really know about what is good or bad. The closest ive gotten before are Japanese Tantos and really you cant compare the two they are so different. But to me this feels great very happy with the money i spent.
I seriously cant think of any serious Cons, apart from the fact i would have preferd it a bit longer. More of a wakazashi type length but it is in the Knife range anyway so i cant complain.
