Hey guys, first I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Steve and I'm an alcholholic..... j/k  sorry guys couldn't resist
Anyways I was thinking about having a custom sword made by Huawei. He said he could make what I'm looking for which is a DH Chokuto style wakizashi with Hamidashi style fittings for $180 +s&h however I know production swords have a history of coming with cracked or loose fittings especially the tsuka so I was also contemplating just getting a bare blade or at least having the sword sent without the tsuka and ito and have a custom tsuka made to ensure better fit plus I wouldn't mind having the ito wrap in genuine silk or leather which Huawei doesn't offer I belive. My question is would it be worth having a custom tsuka made for a cheaper, lower end blade? I know having a custom tsuka made and wrapped in a better quality won't be cheap and may end up costing more than the sword itself.
Also for the past day I have been reading up on Huawei swords and while most of the reviews seemed positive when it came to the blade itself, I did read one where a member here had really nicked up the blade on some bamboo I think it was due to a bad heat treat. Was that just an isolated case? How durable are Huawei's DH T-10 blades? Admittedly I am no swordsman or martial artist (though I'd love to take some lessons someday) and this is mainly gonna be a display piece so it shouldn't really bother me but still I'd like a sword that is at least capable of being used as a reliable weapon in the event of a zombie apocalypse that isn't a machete. C'mon when the zombies attack everyone will be using a machete, I want something a little more stylish when I hack up my undead   Seriously though I would like something that has the ability of being a capable and durable weapon even though I have no plans on using it as such.
