What are some important things to look for when buying Shiriken, or "ninja stars"?

Shuriken are awesome fun. They stick in with the minimum of practice. I never could get the gist of throwing knives.
I made my own out of some 3mm Galvanised steel. Simple 5 point star (easy to draw) then hacksaw / bench grinder. Finally drill the centre, then sharpen.
Shuriken are hell lethal things, make sure you are out country or somewhere in case it drifts wayward.

we used to make simple double ended spikes on a lathe during lunch and throw them at the trees out back of the work shop. Fun for all ages!

You have to feel the weight of them to realize that these suckers are weapons not toys.so in answer to the question I quess you would look for ,steel, weight, balance, kind of like a sword. Also I think these were used more for there psychological effect on the enemy then as lethal killing weapons. But still i wouldn't want to get hit with one.

Interesting. I'm pretty sure they're legal in my state. Most of the sites I've looked at list which weapons are illegal in which states.

I make my own by taking razor blades (box cutter types) and using an epoxy to hold them together. link 4 together using 4 seperate albiet' minor drops of epoxy and you can create some truly effective shuriken. I can get them to stick nearly every time. Great fun! ~star Happy Jesse
