Ugly as a rhinocerous' sack. Not at all historically accurate, probably would work just the same is function is higher priority than looks.

www.weaponmasters.com/index.html?ID=e79e7ea73c33c6d212964fc4e2a2ca7f&SORT=&ITEM=WM-4167This is the other one I came across. It looks nice and is cheap. but its not all that functional. reviewers have posted good things about its ability to damage cardboard boxes, walls (interior verses exterior was not specified), and banana trees. Encounters with concrete however resulted in immediate damage. There's some debate on how it does against wooden fences. In any case none of the reviews mention any total breakdowns. Still trueswords claimed it wasn't for actual spike or hammer use, and that its secured by screws instead of socketed. Although it does look very nice and is supposedly an exact replica.

Those are nice, but I'm kind of a bargains shopper. My goal is to find a few full contact weapons that are less then $70 each.

There's only one war hammer that I can find. Its $75 dollars and there's no mention of its construction materials or assembly. No reviews either.
Interesting site though.

I'll go check now, I can distinctly remember at least 3 different warhammers offered. Maybe they're discontinued?

The last one's really an axe.
The english one looks alright, its a good size, unfortunately it doesn't say anything about how its held together.

That's what they want you to believe.
It's really a haxe - a hammer axe! lol.
If you look at the sides, you can see that the langets are rivetted to the wooden shaft and I am assuming that the head it held via some sort of socket. It's difficult to be mislead on a warhammer, unless the wood is of shoddy manufacture, which isn't entirely out of the question.

Ok, well I'm looking for more of a war pick.
The 13th century one I posted had langets but its held with screws instead of sockets.
Do warhammers require the same scrutiny as swords. Or there typically WLO (warhammer like objects) ?

It's a different level of scrutiny. Historical accuracy matters a lot.
What is really important is not what the head is made from, but how sturdy the shaft is. A most beauitful warhammer mounted on a half inch dowel is worthless.

Take a look at the head of that hammer. Now look right were the langets begin and the head ends. See that gap between them? I wouldn't be suprised if those langets are just for decoration and the head is secured only by friction.

They said it was screwed on.
Are you sure about the langets being for show, all I see is a shadow where the edge of the head is.

From the site itself - obviously langets are just for decoration

Is that the equivalent of a sword with a rat tail tang?

That shadow shouldn't be there. take a look at this piece from A&A www.armor.com/pole005.htmlYour piece that you linked to from trueswords has a yawning gulf between the langets and the head. edit: It's equivelent to a (medieval) sword being held by only friction instead of extending into the pommel and being held in place. Although, since it is screwed on, it would be more secure, but still unsafe.
