It is an oversized mix between a true scimitar and the handle of a tulwar and i always wanted this weapon.

This sword is a creation of Hollywood as far as the time frame of the movie is concerned. The film is set at the end of the Third Crusade. At this time the soldiers in the army of Saladin would have carried something that resembled this:(click on link for bigger picture) img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=isas84jy4.jpgThis is what a Muslim cavalier would have looked like: img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=turkishbowcase16thcik2.jpgNow, mind you, Azeem's sword is a VERY COOL weapon and I would like to see it made by a major sword maker, what a slashing weapon this would be

Totally Hollywood, The scimitar was never this wide close to the tip. That flaring tip is called a yelman as found in the Kilij or pala. This is the closet thing you will find in Mid Eastern swords to the hollywood version: This next image isn't posting so I'll provide a link forums.swordforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=62227&d=1172373189 One sword that comes really close to the Hollywood "Scimitar" is the chinese Dao But I have no idea how historically accurate that is. The handle is not consistent with a mid easters style handle, it is Indian as bloodwraith has indicated. JP, do you know who makes Saladin style swords? they're not too easy to find. I keep saying I want to start a thread for scimitar to give people more exposure but I have to find time first

The only one I know of is this one, the KoH sword of Saladin: Now I would not say it is entirely historically accurate, but the idea is there. Look at the way the sword fits in the scabbard and it looks pretty authentic. Now, as far as the sword itself, I would not recommend buying it. It is not well balanced at all. It truly fells like a crowbar in hand. The blade is carbon steel and functional but, it is very tip heavy and hard to maneuver one handed. It does look great however

Thanks JP, that's the only arab Saladin era sword I know of as well. It looks good, but I think it was hollywood-ized
Thanks for the mini review!
If I ever come across any others, I'll let you know
