Looks like a fantasy piece. Though, in kind of a good way.

Wow, that is absolutely beautiful! Fantasy, but definitely within reason/ not overboard. How much does that go for?

They sell it around 2000$ !!! At MHO, it does not worth that much, but I could be wrong... It seem to be well made after all... I would like to hear a profesionnal advice on it!

just the sheath would at least worth 500$ to my eyes because of the rayskin on it and the fittings (and thats without mentioning the rectangular decorations) so i think the overall quality would be worth it exept maybe for the blade... if it was made from tamahagane (and yes there are jian out there made from tamahagane) the price would be really cheap...(normally worth the double for a custom tamahagane blade)

At an exhibition of antiques here in Taiwan, I once saw a sword with such a guard, skull and snakes, used for exorcism in a Daosit sect, blades was folded, with 7 stars inlay, but not hardened. So not really pure fantasy, but of course not out of pure martial application circles. Remember, there have been many different usages for swords in China, be it fighting, be it honoring it's bearer, be it for fengshui in a well managed house or be it religious in certain ceremonies.

While I am a fan of Serpents, and like the look of the sheath. I'm not feeling the guard. It's nice, and a very interesting combination, but I'm sure it could have been done a bit better.
