Hey guys, I've found a site that sells Bowie Blade blanks for between $5 and $20 a blank, the SMKW store. The bad thing about them is that they seem to be made in Pakistan. Is their metal as bad as I've heard? This is one that I had my eye on. So if anyone sees anything I should lookout for, I'd be grateful. www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/pr ... BL008.html

A fellow at our blacksmith club had one of those blanks, and it was soft. Not marshmallow soft, but soft enough that it is considered usable for a working knife only under the loosest of terms.
Pakistani metallurgy is questionable at best when applied to mass produced cheap items such as you referenced. Couple that with the inherent difficulties involved in producing good cutlery grade stainless, and you have your answer.
As to its usefulness, it will all come down to expectations.

Dang. Thanks Chuck. There are some others that sell Bowie blanks, but a cheap one runs about $70. Oh well, you probably saved me from my miserly self.
