Alright, so here's the story. My room-mate recently got the chance to help his grandfather and grandmother move out of their house and into assisted living. During the move, my roomie stumbled across a pistol that his grandfather picked up during WWII when he was stationed in Europe. Problem is, grandpa doesn't remember where he was stationed or the details of his acquiring the pistol. So, help? Looks to be internal hammer, single stack, pretty damn straight handle without a palm-swell in the back of the handle. Picture attached, I hope. My room-mate says that the most distinctive thing is that the ridges or grooves at the back of the slide for grip when cycling the action are curved as opposed to straight. Attachments:

Let me snoop a bit. It is likely Spanish or Belgian. It's a clone of Browning's 1903/1908 design. Clearer photos of both sides would make identification much easier. Especially any words or markings.

Looks almost like the Beretta 1915. I agree with Mike. Better pics of both sides and markings and calibre too.

It looks like a Tokarev.
Perhaps a CZ or a Yugo clone.

Like so? Copy of the Browing 1903 commonly referred to as a "Ruby" Pistol. 7.65 mm or 32 ACP. Made by many small manufacturers in France. If it has Cyrillic markings on the slide, it was one that was supplied to Yugoslavia by France. More here on the pistol- www.reenactor.net/units/151ri/weps/ruby_pistol.html

If has a 7 round mag it will be the model 1911. The design is based on the Browning 1910.

The strangest thing is I wasn't even trying to ID it. I was going through a cabinet the book was in there it open to the page it open to the page the pistol is on. I did think it was a spanish pistol, Spain sold a lot of pistols to Germany during WW II

Guys, you are the best. So, after a bit more digging, we're pretty sure it's a Tokarev or the Browning 1903. Room-mate says the grooves on the slide are more similar to the Browning, but that lever is forward of the grip and ther're no markings on the slide. Like, literally, none. No serial number... nada. Also, grandpa evidently took it off of a Nazi soldier when his back-up ran out of ammo. Really gives some history, eh?
I'll let you know when we have better pictures and/or a more definitive answer.

It is not a Tokarev. Tokarevs have external hammers. It is not a Browning 1903, as the grip is too long and squared at teh bottom. It is most likely a clone, based on the Browning 1903 design. We could tell for sure if it's a Ruby with some clearer photos.

Clearer photos would help immensely, but from what is distinguishable in the blurry pic provided seems to point to it being a Ruby.
They were made in Spain mostly, I dished up some misinformation with my French manufacture statement. The only ones I have ever seen were used by French reenactors, hence my convoluted thought train. Sorry for the muddy water.

One other thing if it is a ruby which we are sure it is because of lack of marking, don't shoot it until it check well over by a good gunsmith. Most rubies were made of soft steels, they can be dangerous with model ammo.
