I have about ten spears and about eight swords and I am looking to make a rack. Does anyone here have any suggestions or pictures of racks they have built for their spear collection? I want a floor rack with the spears vertically positioned.

Check out the gardening section of home depot for rake holders. Spears and pikes are similar to most garden tools. That should give you some good ideas and you can see upclose how they are put together.

OK, since I am a monotheistic kinda guy...you're just pretty cool and smart. But anyway, I was watching this thread for ideas as I want some sort of similar container to house sword scabbards as well as pole arms. This just might be the ticket, especially with a little "adornment" like an animal skin draped across the front. ;D

Pool cue racks might also provide ideas... Someone on SFI did one, basically a frame with feet, holes cut in the two horizontal pieces to fit sword or polearms, when the search comes back online ill find it and post the pics... casiberia.com/product_details.asp?id=OH2235 thats used for arrowheads, but the principle stands, just need to make it larger...

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Mike, that arrow rack is nice, however my ceilings are low and I won't be able to lift the spears out vertically. I will need some sort of chain or bar across the front to allow the spears to be removed from the front. Here is a pic more along the lines of what I had in mind. My stuff is european though, not asian. www.hungga.org/en/curriculum/bing_hei.htmHere is another idea along the lines of what I want to make. www.sculptureartists.org/Img179_STEEL_STAFF_RACK_Img179_STAFFR.aspI'll post a pic when I get mine built.

Here is a shot of some of the spears that will be in the rack. There are about 5 missing from this picture. The cold steel assagi I hafted to a hog sorting pole back when all cold steel sold was the short shaft model. The lance is a paul chen. The rest are Windlass steelcrafts. Missing are several more paul chen pieces, cold steel boar spear, a paul chen spontoon, etc. When I get the rack done, I’ll post a finished pic. Click on the thumbnail for a larger picture.

Beautiful! I love spears. I have a Greek Spear and a Viking Long Spear from MRL, both nice, solid, well made spear heads. I also have some sort, I don't know by whom, that is an awsome spear, but has another section that you unscrew the butt spike and then screw them together with the middle sleeve and put the butt spike on the second section and it makes an 18' boarding pike or spear. Awesome! In the Illiad it describes the Greeks defending their ships with just such a spear or pike. Fb

Awesome collection Dishdoc. I really like the first spear on the left and the fifth form the left. Those are the two with the wide flat heads. I like the idea of using such a spear to make cuts as well as thrusts. I particularly like the fifth from the left because it has a little crossbar for hooking.
I recently started fighting with the glaive in the SCA. This is similar to the large flat headed spears you have in that it can thrust and cut. Do you have any spearfighting experience Dishdoc?
I also like that round shield. Nice rack.

DishDoc, That's a great looking spear rack. I have to applaud you for making it. And karma to you for showing it to us. I have some ideas now, maybe I can build one. I just couldn't picture in my mind how it would work. But the pictures made the light bulb come on in my head. Bing!

I also like that round shield. Nice rack. If you like those then you will like the CS boar spear I got at the blade show. Man that thing has a thick shaft. My understanding is that the cross bars reduce overpenetration. I even remember reading about bear hunting in the black forest in Germany with spears and dogs and those spears had a cross bar in the shaft like the spontoon to keep the bear from coming up the shaft. They anchored the butt cap into the ground. I would be a little worried about hooking and pulling with my spearhead because it might come off the shaft. I like the glaive, I almost bought one at Museum Replicas a few years back. It’s a wicked piece. From what I remember that piece had langlets that screwed to the shaft. That would be helpful in keeping the head on the shaft while you hooked. I would still like to get a glaive. I have a few open slots in the spear rack to fill. Where did you get yours? I also want a naginata and a halbard. I have been thinking about getting the three CAS Hanwei spears currently floating around. I had a chance to look at them up close at the show and they looked CAST to me… The description says they are high carbon but they sure look CAST. I would have been so pissed if I had bought them. All my stuff is the real deal, combat ready and I sharpen my spears. CAST stinks. As far as spear fighting I trained with the bo and hanbo when I used to take martial arts. If I engaged in combat with a bad guy, I suspect I would choose a 12 gauge. I have however killed a few animals with my spear. I would like to kill a feral hog with my new boar spear. I think spearing a 1000 pound animal that could easily kill or maim you would be a real challange. Does that qualify?
