Heya guys!
First of all, thanks for accepting my registration. I stumbled across this Forum, and I know nothing of the trade. So I hope to become a little more wise here.
I need some help. I am the Chairperson of a dayhouse (Luminous) at the University of Pretoria. The dayhouse was started this year, and has a rather medieval feel. One of the traditions we wish to incorporate is creating a custom sword each year for the House Committee. This sword will resemble their authority and what they intend to do the coming year. On the blade we will engrave the names of everyone in the House Committee and at the end of the term it will be framed and placed in our trophy room for everyone to see.
The sword will be at all our events. Seeing as we are students, it shouldn't be sharpened at all! Other Residences might want to steal it and so forth. We also want a contact that will do this for us for the next 10 years or more.
Our first years will be knighted in with the sword and the new HK (House Committee) will also be knighted... After that we can probably send the sword to be sharpened and polished to be placed in the trophy room...
As we started the house we were thinking of creating a "unfinished sword". Maybe a slick handle, but unshaped blade, or a fantastic blade, without the handle...
Problem is, I don't know where to start. Who will be able to do this? Where do I find crafters? And most importantly, how much will it cost!?
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.
