Wow, this old thread has been resurrected twice since 2011! If Jayhawk is still happy with his dao then it's all that matters.
I think he's got a fine dao but it's a little on the heavy side. I would still be cautious of lemons out there! Chinese companies love to take fittings from good swords and switch it with inferior steel to confuse collectors.

I apologize I actually had deleted my comment because I was actually a little ashamed of it as it was awful presumptive I was honestly just trying to help. I may have been wrong and I admit that. Wasn't trying to sound like a prick

P.s. I think I may be addicted to these reviews. Hence the revival of the old threads.

It's all good. I bought the sword specifically to see if one that cheap could make a good backyard cutter...I had doubts myself, but still feel despite the cheap fittings it's a very decent blade.
The reviews are fun and useful, though...I always check them before buying.

Eric, Thank you for your review. Actually, I was hesistating to buy this sword for many months, but had my doubts about the steel quality. But now I can safely assume that this one is fully worth the money and is a nice cutter. Of course I can also go for the Huanuo liuyuedao, but that one is about 3 times more expensive. I'm still new here, and reads about 'karma points' for reviews, but don''t know what that exactly means. But anyway, (at least) 1 karma point from me!

My thanks to Eric for the review and Knowntocustomize for bringing this back. I was looking at the Kris cutlery Song Dao. Now I'm not so sure. It appears that the swordnarmory dao and the Kris dao are the same sword. The difference being two hundred dollars and a sword bag. I'm a bit let down by this. They use the same fittings, but the Kris dao has a differentially hardened 1060 blade, and the SnA dao is 1045 and doesn't say it's differentially hardened. The big question is what their tangs look like.
The Kris dao is pretty heavy.

The big question is what their tangs look like. The Kris dao is pretty heavy. I would hope the Kris dao has a much more substantial tang and better blade shoulders. For almost three hundred dollars it should. I love the blade on both swords but even with the 1060 steel that tang would make me uneasy. And I have a differentially hardened 1060 Kris blade. Its amazingly tough.

One would hope the KC is a serious step up in blade quality, but the fittings look dead on the same, and the blade looks exactly the same and the specs including POB are pretty much dead on, too.
I still love my sword, it cuts cooking pumpkins thrown at you flawlessly and the tang and blade are fine. Apart from the non function fittings not being put on well, it's just a good, functional sword.
